Two favourites for next Leicester City manager job compared to Steve Cooper’s managerial record

Leicester City are on the hunt for a new manager once again after dismissing Steve Cooper just 12 matches into his three-year contract.

The Foxes sit perilously above the drop zone, while performances at the King Power Stadium have been far from ideal.

The next Leicester manager will be tasked with improving results and performances while connecting with the fans on a weekly basis.

Plenty of names have been linked though it seems that Graham Potter has ruled himself out of the Leicester job, along with David Moyes.

There are another two on the cards though as Ruud van Nistelrooy and Carlos Corberan have emerged as favourites to replace Cooper.

So with that said, here’s a look at their record in management so far compared to the previous Leicester boss.

Ruud van Nistelrooy managerial record compared to Steve Cooper

Former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is just at the start of his budding career as a football manager, which has seen him take charge of two clubs.

One of those was one season at PSV Eindhoven, where he took charge of 50 games, which included a Dutch Cup and Dutch Super Cup triumph.

In those matches, he picked up 34 wins, eight draws and eight defeats – going at a rate of 2.20 points per game.

At Manchester United, he took four matches in charge of the side as caretaker earlier this season – taking three wins and one draw.

It’s a relatively small sample size compared to Steve Cooper, who has taken charge of 227 matches in his career.

While it shows that Van Nistelrooy has a habit of winning, there’s no guarantee he can replicate it when he isn’t in the top job – which may come as a risk.

Carlos Corberan managerial record compared to Steve Cooper

Carlos Corberan has a longer track record than Van Nistelrooy in his career so far – taking charge of three teams.

He started out as an assistant at Leeds United under Marcelo Bielsa before he left to take up the main role at Huddersfield Town.

Upon leaving there in 2022, after losing the Championship play-off final to Nottingham Forest, Corberan made the switch to Greece with Olympiacos.

Much like Cooper, he only lasted 11 games there before returning to England, joining West Bromwich Albion.

Over 100 games later, Corberan has steered the Baggies through uncertainty and to a position where there is some comfort with on-field matters.

Compare that to Cooper over a similar amount of time and the record isn’t too dissimilar, though they have been at different clubs.

Corberan is used to working under difficult conditions and turning a team around, something that may be useful to Leicester.
