‘Without being disrespectful’ – Troy Deeney lays into Leicester City after Arsenal loss

Troy Deeney didn’t mince his words when assessing Leicester City’s defeat against Arsenal.

The Foxes were beaten 2-0 by the Gunners in a predictable encounter that saw Leicester defend well for the majority of the game – only to be let down by two lapses of concentration in the final third.

Leicester achieved an unwanted record by becoming the second team in Premier League history to lose five consecutive home games without scoring.

With 13 games left of the season, Leicester’s chances of relegation are high and unless Ruud van Nistelrooy turns things around, it will be an immediate return to the Championship.

Hardly anyone has given the Foxes a chance of staying up and it seems that Deeney is one of those.

Troy Deeney claims anyone can beat Leicester City

Defeat at the King Power Stadium was the ninth defeat in their last 10 Premier League games and are still two points off safety.

Many would argue that Leicester put in one of their better displays over the past three months but it has done nothing to convince Deeney they can remain in the top flight and that they are far too easy to play against.

He said on TalkSPORT: “It was against Leicester who have shown over the course of time that they can make everybody look unbelievably good.

“I think fundamentally he did well and it was against Leicester, so let’s take it with a pinch of salt without being disrespectful to Leicester, even though I am.”

Troy Deeney lays out what Leicester City need to do to stay up

The Foxes have two winnable games ahead of them before a run of games that includes trips to Chelsea and Manchester City.

It’s very likely that this run of games will make or break Leicester’s season as time ticks.

Deeney believes that Van Nistelrooy’s men must cherry pick which games they will pick up results in and ensure they don’t drop points.

Speaking after the weekend defeat, the former Watford man said: “When we [Watford] were trying to stay up, you’d identify certain games as you’ve got to take four points from these teams over the course of the season.

“In an ideal world, they’d get a draw at Brentford and they’ll beat West Ham. That’d be an ideal world because you’re pulling West Ham closer towards you.

“Then they’re going to have four games after that where it becomes really difficult. They go Chelsea away, United at home, City away, Newcastle at home. Those four games, if you can nick two, maybe three points, that’s a bonus.”
