Leicester City lightweight got badly exposed once again in ‘afternoon to forget’ vs Man Utd

One Leicester City man notably and significantly struggled in the defeat to Man United.

Leicester City were undone 3-0 in their recent Premier League game as Man United saw them off with ease and comfort at Old Trafford.

There were very few signs on the afternoon that Leicester City were going to be able to live up to the standards met by the hosts, and Steve Cooper’s side ran out as second-best across the pitch.

Several players across the pitch struggled and put out what can be described as a fairly gutless performance, and Cooper put that down to a real lack of desire and belief within the ranks.

Looking at the individuals on the pitch, there was one in particular that quite simply didn’t turn up, and it was clear from the very first minute.

Leicester City full-back Victor Kristiansen notably struggles against Man United

Foxes full-back Victor Kristiansen has been a regular in the current Leicester City side, only missing just one game so far of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.

However, after an ‘afternoon to forget’ in which he ‘struggled to cope with Amad [Diallo] from the first whistle’, per Leicestershire Live, it could be very likely that he is dropped as a result.

It was poor by all accounts from the Foxes defender, who was unfortunate to score an own-goal, however fellow players James Justin, Wout Faes and Jannik Vestergaard didn’t quite cover themselves in glory after their three goals conceded on their travels.

Victor Kristiansen stats vs Man United show clear concern for Steve Cooper

There is no hiding Kristiansen’s poor showing at Old Trafford, and the stats clearly back up the case.

Per SofaScore, of the 90 minutes played, Kristiansen was dribbled past three times, was unable to make a single interception, and lost possession of the ball 11 times. He also lost 67% of duels, and didn’t even attempt a single dribble.

Such a performance should see Cooper look towards the options on the bench and in the squad, however it is fairly light and it uncovers a key issue for the Leicester City boss.

Cooper’s options are either to once again play James Justin out-of-position, or go for Luke Thomas, and both options can easily cause serious issues for the Foxes.

As a result, it will be no surprise to see that Cooper will likely persevere with Kristiansen, despite such a performance, and he will have to make sure that the Danish international is able to move onwards from such a poor showing.
