Leicester City’s Premier League journey is almost certainly over.

With nine games of the Premier League season remaining, the Foxes are second from bottom and nine points behind Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Supporters are already resigned to being in the Championship next season and with several Leicester stars expected to leave this summer, a rebuild will be needed.

Ruud van Nistelrooy may well be in the dugout for the 25/26 campaign, regardless of what division the club finds itself in. If that is to be the case, the Leicester manager must use his contacts at Manchester United to make one crucial signing.

Leicester City should sign Harry Amass on loan this summer

Van Nistelrooy knows Man United like the back of his hand from his time as both a player and coach.

He’ll be fully aware of the talent coming through at Old Trafford and one that fits the bill is young starlet Harry Amass.

The young full-back made his Man United debut in the win against the Foxes on his 18th birthday and impressed in the left-back slot.

With Victor Kristiansen not good enough and Luke Thomas also unlikely to be a first choice despite his resurgence in form, Amass represents a perfect opportunity for a loan spell, with United likely reluctant to part ways with him permanently.

Championship football would likely suit him too and it would be a chance to play regular football in a high-quality side challenging for promotion.

Erik ten Hag gave glowing appraisal of Harry Amass

There has been a clamouring from Man United fans for some time to get Amass into their first team.

He was a part of the club’s pre-season squad but has had to be patient to get his opportunity.

Amass was someone that caught the eye of Erik ten Hag, who was cautious with his development but knew of his talent.

In August 2024, he told the Manchester Evening News: “We all see here a potential where we have seen in previous years. For instance, Garnacho. We had it during last season with Kobbie.

“(Amass) is not that far (along in his development) at this moment. But if we train him well, if we coach him well, then in three months it’s possible that he can be on that point.

“But in this moment he needs to catch up and he has to develop some skills already to play for Manchester United, competing for the highest positions in the league. But with big talent it can go up very quickly.”
