Steve Cooper must turn towards an experienced Leicester City defender with 176 Premier League apps this season.

Leicester City’s transfer activity has somewhat stagnated in recent weeks, despite previous links with the likes of midfielder Matt O’Riley and Reo Hatate from Scottish and European outfit Celtic.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s departure from the King Power saw the Foxes rightfully target a midfielder to bring in ahead of the new Premier League season, however very little progress has now been made in this pursuit.

Juventus’ Matias Soule was also targeted as a suitable attacking-midfielder/winger option to replace Dewsbury-Hall, however the Argentinian winger decided to alternatively join up with Serie A side Roma.

Whilst The Foxes struggle to bring in the necessary new faces ahead of the start of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, they may have to turn towards some experienced heads to get them through the opening games before the cavalry arrive.

Leicester City may have to prioritise game time for Conor Coady

The only position where Steve Cooper’s side have a solid amount of options is in centre-back, which was bolstered by the arrival of Caleb Okoli from Atalanta.

Despite this, the Foxes may have to look past the likes of Okoli for the first few games, with experience likely to be crucial for Cooper’s side in ensuring that they can scrap out some necessary results at the start of the season.

Former Wolves defender Conor Coady will provide an essential impact for the Foxes, despite being handed just eight starts in the Championship last season under Enzo Maresca.

Steve Cooper must turn to experienced individuals

Fortunately, Leicester City have many players who have been nurtured to compete at a high level in the Premier League, something that will be absolutely crucial in this campaign.

Coady for example has fruitful experience at this level which could be crucial, with him tallying 176 Premier League appearances and 10 England caps across his career, and the likes of Jamie Vardy, Wilfred Ndidi and Harry Winks will be crucial for the very same reasons.

Cooper has experience managing at this level, something that will also provide a positive impact, compared to if Enzo Maresca was still in charge at the King Power.

Ultimately, getting the mentality correct will make or break Leicester City’s season, and despite the transfer window not going entirely to plan, the experienced heads in the dressing room must galvanise the squad and ensure that they are still fully set on their first game of the season.
