Steve Cooper has asked Leicester City’s owners to sign a Sunderland midfielder this summer.

The Foxes have made several summer signings already this window as they gear up for a return to the Premier League.

Abdul Fatawu, Micheal Golding, Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Caleb Okoli have been brought to the King Power Stadium for Steve Cooper.

More additions are likely before deadline day, though, as Leicester City want to strengthen in four positions.

The Midlands outfit are understood to want a new left-back, central midfielder, winger, and a striker.

In their search for reinforcements, the Foxes have been linked with a plethora of players of late.

Leicester have bid for Crystal Palace’s Jordan Ayew, who could be available for a reduced fee due to his contract situation and a potential lack of minutes at Selhurst Park next term.

Cooper will also battle Ajax for Wout Weghorst, who looks set to leave Burnley in the current window.

Now, a fresh name is said to be garnering interest from those in a position of power at the club.

Steve Cooper wants Leicester City to sign Sunderland midfielder

One area the Foxes are particularly light in going into the 2024/25 season is midfield.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored 12 and assisted 15 for the Foxes during their promotion-winning season.

However, he has now joined Chelsea, with Cooper eager for Leicester to replace Dewsbury-Hall this summer.

Now, Leicester have seemingly found the man they want to sign to strengthen their midfield ranks.

Africa Foot report that Cooper has asked Leicester’s owners to sign Sunderland midfielder, Pierre Ekwah.

Cooper is said to be a big admirer of the player and Leicester’s scouts have approached the player’s camp for additional information on him.

What will Pierre Ekwah bring to Leicester City

Ekwah began his career in France and made a name for himself in FC Nantes’ academy.

The midfielder then earned himself a move to Chelsea in the summer of 2020, linking up with their youth teams.

Ekwah scored five and assisted two in 24 games for the Blues’ U18 side before transferring to West Ham United in 2021.

He was a standout star for the Hammers at U21 level, scoring nine and assisting three in 39 games.

The 22-year-old joined current club Sunderland in January 2023 for an undisclosed fee.

He is a regular starter at the Stadium of Light, notching 40 outings in 2023/24 for the Black Cats.

Ekwah is a defensive midfielder but he can operate slightly further forward. He provides a solid attacking threat and could be a decent replacement for Dewsbury-Hall.
