Steve Cooper will be thankful Leicester City didn’t complete deal for winger, he has 0 goals so far

Steve Cooper will be glad he didn’t pull the trigger on one top transfer target this summer.

Leicester City’s start to the season has been somewhat lacklustre, however they will be hoping that the win against Bournemouth will be a sign of things to come.

The Foxes have struggled in several departments across the pitch, but one area that is certainly showing concern is the attacking front.

In all fairness to Jamie Vardy, he has been in solid form considering he is in the twilight of his career at the age-of-37, however Jordan Ayew has been far from a revelation since he signed from fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace.

Bobby De Cordova Reid is another who has shown very little in a Foxes shirt, however that blow has been cushioned by the recent form of Facundo Buonanotte, who bagged the winner against Bournemouth.

Buonanotte was by no means the top choice for Leicester City this summer, and they actually went to pursue an alternative Argentinian winger, which they will be glad didn’t come into fruition.

Leicester City dodged Matias Soule transfer bullet

In the earlier stages of the summer transfer window following their promotion from the Championship, it was highlighted that the attacking ranks were somewhat depleted following the departure of Kelechi Iheanacho, and matters were made worse after Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall departed for Chelsea.

Former Juventus winger Matias Soule was regarded as a possible big money signing, with fees circulating the £25million mark being suggested as a possible price-tag for the Argentinian.

Whilst Leicester City reportedly agreed a fee for the attacker, no deal was able to come into fruition as the bid was matched by AS Roma, who Soule opted to move to instead.

Since his arrival, he is yet to find the back of the net, and that has come from eight appearances that have led to just two wins for the Italian giants both in Serie A and the Europa League.

Leicester City got the better alternative with Facundo Buonanotte signing

There is no doubt that Buonanotte was an alternative option after the Soule deal broke down due to him favouring a move to a fellow Italian side, however Steve Cooper will feel as if he has got the better end of the deal this time round.

Buonanotte certainly showed his qualities in the 1-0 win against Bournemouth, and it was a brilliant deal to bring in a proven Premier League talent who surprisingly couldn’t make it into the current Brighton side.

There will be every hope that Leicester City’s other attackers can begin to follow suit as Buonanotte can not be solely relied on at this point, but if Cooper had an out-of-form Soule at right wing alternatively, it could have been a case that the Foxes would be sat here still without a Premier League win under their belt.
