Enzo Maresca told of ‘two possible deals’ Leicester City need to make in January

Enzo Maresca will be keen on making some improvements in January, here are two names that have been suggested as potential signings.

Leicester City have romped their way through the league this season, only being stopped twice by Leeds United and Hull City.

However, despite losing to the former last week, Leicester remain top, with Ipswich Town just three points behind.

The gap to third is 11 points which is a huge amount considering the winning run Leicester went on last time they lost.

But with January just several weeks away, the Foxes will almost definitely be in the market for improvements.

Who will Leicester target in January?

Writing on Leicestershire Live, Jordan Blackwell has tipped Leicester to make moves for two signings in January.

He began: “I do think there are two possible deals City could look at. The first is a left-footed defender.” This is a position that Maresca will be keen to strengthen with Callum Doyle injured.

Blackwell then continued: “It’s expected that Doyle will be fit again come January, but having had so long out, he may need time to get back up to speed.

“Plus, he’s highly rated by Manchester City, so if Leicester go up it’s not a guarantee they will keep him, in which case they will then need to sign two left-footed defenders next summer. To ease their short-term and long-term problems, it would make sense for them to at least look at bringing in one in come January.”

Continuing, he identified the second position that could be targeted in January.

“The other position it’s possible they might strengthen is in midfield. They tried to sign McAtee on loan from Man City at the end of the summer window because of Praet’s injury, and recent issues to Ndidi and Yunus have left them a little short there.

“If Praet is still struggling with his back, and with Ndidi heading off to represent Nigeria for a month, I do think it’s possible they’ll bring in someone on loan for the remainder of the season.”

Will Alves is tipped as an option for this position, one which could limit the need for someone to be signed. Alves returned from injury recently and has already scored for the U21s.

However, the other target position of left-sided defender is one we can’t see Maresca being able to fill with the academy. The potential sale of Harry Souttar could help fund a move.
