Fabrizio Romano issues Leicester City update on £2.5m target Maresca ‘really wants’

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Leicester City still are working on a deal for Stefano Sensi but outgoings are required.

Leicester City are in a strong position to secure promotion to the Premier League, despite losing against Coventry City, and it appears they are preparing for the top flight by recruiting Stefano Sensi.

It was revealed last week that Leicester were showing interest in the Inter Milan midfielder and was told that it would only cost £2.5 million to sign him.

During the last transfer window, however, the Foxes spent heavily on the likes of Harry Winks, Tom Cannon, Conor Coady, Stephy Mavididi and Mads Hermansen.

This means they are limited with the business they can do in this window unless they offload some fringe players off the wage bill.

There are several that have contributed to the bloating of their squad, including Danny Ward, Dennis Praet and Harry Souttar.

They could be either sold in this window to make a deal for Sensi easier to complete or sent packing in the summer.

Fabrizio Romano reveals Leicester ‘keep working on’ Stefano Sensi deal

Enzo Maresca is a fan of the Italian metronome with Fabrizio Romano claiming that he ‘really wants’ the 28-year-old.

With Leicester continuing to work on a deal and Inter prepared to sell, the stars appear to be aligning in luring Sensi to the King Power this month.

After suffering long periods on the sidelines through injury, he will be desperate to rediscover the best form of his career under Maresca.

Given the Foxes are also in cruise control at the top of the Championship, Sensi could be sold by the allure of Premier League football.

Leicester City should consider signing Sensi

The centre of Leicester’s midfield is far from secure moving forward.

Wilfried Ndidi is sidelined through injury currently and could depart the club in the summer unless he signs a new contract.

Cesare Casadei will return to Chelsea in June while Hamza Choudhury and Dennis Praet could be surplus to requirements.

If the Foxes do secure promotion to the top flight, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Winks will likely start in midfield, but the third spot is under examination.

That could be vacated by Sensi – if Leicester manage to sign him.

A deep-lying playmaker, who has been described as a “wizard”, Inter’s midfield maestro has experience playing at the top of European football and would enable Maresca’s side to keep possession better.

He’s also capable of filling two positions; the deep-lying role occupied by Winks and as one of the two advanced midfielders.

This positional versatility is handy for Maresca to have and is why he’s so desperate to sign him.
