Leicester City have been linked with a move for Newcastle United winger Miguel Almiron, who has fallen out of favour at St James’ Park.

Almiron has been at Newcastle since January 2019 after he joined from MLS outfit Atlanta United.

Miguel Almiron thrived in his early days at the Magpies and helped them to narrowly avoid relegation before eventually becoming a part of the richest club in world football.

As the years have gone by and the quality of players has improved, Almiron has largely managed to keep his place, however, this season he has fallen down the pecking order.

Eddie Howe has only started Almiron three times in all competitions and could reportedly be willing to part ways this winter.

Reports have suggested that Almiron has been offered to Leicester and with the Foxes in desperate need of additions for their Premier League survival push, he could be the man to turn the season around.

So, with that, here is everything you need to know about the Foxes’ latest transfer target.

How old is Miguel Almiron?

Miguel Almiron was born on 10 February 1994, which makes him 30-years-old at the time of writing and just coming towards the end of the peak of his career.

Almiron was born in Asuncion, Paraguay.

How tall is Miguel Almiron?

Almiron stands at approximately 5ft 9 inches, or 1.74m, tall.

This would make him one of the shorter players in the side if he were to join Leicester.

What position does Miguel Almiron play?

Almiron predominately plays on the right wing of the attacking midfield whilst he is also more than capable of playing in the number 10 role or on the left hand side of the attack.

His versatility could be useful for the Foxes, who need more firepower on the right wing due to Abdul Fatawu’s season-ending injury.

Miguel Almiron style of play

One of Almiron’s best traits is his relentless work rate. It’s very rare that you’ll watch a Newcastle game and not see the 30-year-old chasing down defenders, trying to pressure opponents into making a mistake.

He’s always prone to taking a long-range shot, which could benefit Jamie Vardy to pounce on any parried efforts and in a boost for Ruud van Nistelrooy, Almiron loves a possession-based style – something the Foxes have implemented across the last few games.

His short height means he isn’t the best in the air and his crossing could also do with some improvement.

Miguel Almiron’s career

Almiron experienced a difficult life growing up away from football, with his father Ruben often having to work 18 hour shifts as a security guard to provide for the family. He was part of a household of seven, who only had three bedrooms between them and he had to share a bed with his mother until he was 18.

After being rejected by numerous clubs, Almiron began his career at Cerro Porteno. They initially had reservations about his lack of physical presence but impressed and eventually earned himself a move to Lanus in Argentina.

Lanus won the Argentine Primera Division in 2016 and his performances led to MLS franchise Atlanta signing him, where he made his name.

Three years later, Almiron joined Newcastle for £21m – which was the Magpies’ record transfer fee and also a record fee received for an MLS star at the time.

On the international stage, the midfielder is a regular for Paraguay and is considered the country’s poster boy as the only Paraguayan playing in the Premier League.
