After a long wait, Leicester City are on the verge of adding a new player to Steve Cooper’s squad.

The Foxes secured promotion from the Championship in 2023/24 and acted quickly to strengthen their side this summer.

New manager Steve Cooper was backed heavily by owner Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha early in the transfer window.

18-year-old Michael Golding joined from Chelsea for a fee of around £5m, while Bobby De Cordova-Reid made the move to the King Power Stadium on a free transfer.

Leicester City then spent big to complete permanent transfers for Issahaku Fatawu and centre-back Caleb Okoli.

However, the incomings in the Midlands have slowed down over the last few weeks despite continued links.

Chelsea striker David Fofan has been linked with Leicester as the club aims to improve their currently weak attack.

The Foxes are considering a move for Amir Richardson as well, with a replacement for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall still required.

Leicester City close to completing fifth summer transfer

As they prepare for the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, it has been claimed that Leicester want to strengthen in three more positions.

A central midfielder, number 10, and centre-forward are all thought to be priorities for the club.

Now it appears one of those areas will be addressed with a signing who could join as early as today.

Taking to X/Twitter, Daily Mail journalist Tom Collomosse has reported that Leicester are ‘closing in’ on a loan move for Brighton and Hove Albion star, Facundo Buonanotte.

The transfer appears to be close to being completed as Collomosse confirmed the Argentine could undergo his medial as early as today.

What will Facundo Buonanotte bring to Leicester City

Buonanotte joined Brighton in January 2023 from Argentine outfit CA Rosario Central for around £5m.

During his first half-season with the Seagulls he made 13 Premier League appearances, scoring one and assisting one.

The Argentine was more of a regular feature for Brighton in the previous campaign, netting three and assisting one in 27 outings.

He also scored a sensational goal in a 5-2 FA Cup win over Sheffield United in January 2024.

Buonanotte is a natural number 10 so Cooper will be able to play him through the middle, which is currently a problem area for Leicester.

But the 19-year-old is a versatile attacking midfielder who can also operate on the right wing if needed.

The Foxes have lacked any real creative spark during pre-season so far but the addition of Buonanotte could help solve that issue going into 2024/25.

He remains somewhat short of experience, but given Leicester’s financial situation, the Brighton star is likely as good a signing as they will get this summer.
