Leicester City to miss out on £11.8m South American star once wanted by Arsenal

Leicester City don’t seem to be having much luck in anything right now, including the transfer window.

The Foxes struggled, signing one player in the winter transfer window as the arrival of Woyo Coulibaly was the only bit of excitement.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was let down by the Leicester owners, who made a mistake by not backing him in the window.

Attacking reinforcements were needed for the club’s Premier League relegation battle and instead of looking to tried and tested, they wanted to take a gamble on one of South America’s biggest teenage talents, but now look like they have missed out.

Leicester City transfer target to complete Shakhtar Donetsk move

One of the brightest talents wanted by the Foxes was Brazilian teenage star, Alisson.

The Atletico Mineiro winger, 19, was of interest to Leicester, who eyed the £10.25m winger once wanted by Arsenal.

However, nothing came to fruition and it seems that Van Nistelrooy and co now appear to have missed out altogether.

According to L’Equipe, Alisson will join Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk for a fee estimated to be in the region of £11.8m.

Shakhtar have a long history of developing young Brazilian talent before selling them on for profit as they provide a gateway into European football.

Leicester failed to sign Alisson in January transfer window

It’s another case of what could’ve been for Leicester and a young talent.

The Foxes have missed out on plenty of talents, most notably Ousmane Dembele, who rejected Leicester to join Barcelona.

Their attempt to sign Alisson wasn’t without trying though as Goal Brasil revealed that the wide man was the subject of an £11m bid.

Mineiro rejected that and whilst Shakhtar’s offer isn’t much higher, the promise of more money up front would’ve been enough to persuade the club.

Alisson has three goals in 42 appearances for Mineiro this season and was part of the side that reached the final of the Copa Libertadores.

He also won the South American U20 championship with Brazil and is considered to be a huge talent.
