Leicester City player ratings vs Aston Villa as one man stars in defeat

Leicester City suffered defeat at home to Aston Villa in their latest Premier League fixture.

Leicester City were hoping to respond after a 2-1 away defeat against Fulham, where a Wout Faes goal was not enough for the Foxes to come away from Craven Cottage with any points.

New signing Odsonne Edouard was not involved for Leicester City, however a league debut was given to Oliver Skipp, whilst Jordan Ayew got his first start for Steve Cooper’s side following his permanent move from fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace.

Leicester City managed to get off to a much brighter start at the King Power Stadium against the Champions League outfit in comparison to prior games against Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham.

However a goal in the 27th minute from a free-kick opened up the Foxes defence and undone their positive start, as Amadou Onana slotted the ball past Mads Hermansen.

Leicester City didn’t roll over to the Aston Villa threat and looked to still attack the away side, however a goal courtesy of Jhon Dhuran made it an uphill task for the Foxes.

Cooper’s side responded courtesy of a goal from Facundo Buonanotte, however it was not enough to come back against Aston Villa.

Following the inspired defeat, here is how we rated Leicester City’s individual performances.

Mads Hermansen

Made two brilliant saves to deny Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins. Couldn’t do much about the first goal. 8/10

James Justin

Looked somewhat uncomfortable and not fully assured defensively at full-back. 5/10

Victor Kristiansen

Didn’t look too bad defensively but offered very little on the attacking front. Was unable to work in cohesion with Ayew on the left flank. 6/10

Caleb Okoli

Missed a golden opportunity from the Harry Winks free-kick. Snatched at an effort outside the box at the start of the second half. 6/10

Wout Faes

Was at the heart of a somewhat solid defensive backline. Made a few strong last-ditch challenges. Didn’t track back following Aston Villa’s smart free-kick to give them the lead. 6/10

Wilfired Ndidi

Struggled in the early stages of the game, looking somewhat sloppy on the ball. Expectedly was solid in breaking up the play. 6/10

Oliver Skipp

Was handed a yellow card for a sloppy foul on Watkins. The resulting free-kick led to Aston Villa’s first goal. 5/10

Harry Winks

Sent in a brilliant and unexpected ball from a free-kick, robbed of an assist as Caleb Okoli was unable to convert. 7/10

Abdul Fatuwu

Gave the ball away in the build up to an early Aston Villa and John McGinn chance. Looked decent on the ball and drew a yellow-card from former Fox Youri Tielemans. 7/10

Jordan Ayew

Struggled to get into the game in the first half. Very little attacking output. Arguably should have been given much more service by the passive midfield. 5/10

Jamie Vardy

Given very few opportunities, but still looked to cause problems with his pace when given the chance. Was unlucky to not get a penalty at the death. 7/10

Stephy Mavididi

Made an instant impact after coming off the bench for Leicester City, running at the Aston Villa defence and creating Buonanotte’s goal. 7/10

Facundo Buonanotte

Also made an instant impact when brought into the frey with a brilliantly taken half-volley. 7/10

Substitutes: Bilal El Khannouss 6/10 Bobby De Cordova Reid 5/10 Kasey McAteer 5/10
