Liverpool vs Leicester City player ratings as one star enjoys ‘best game in a Leicester shirt’ in unfortunate defeat

Leicester City battled resiliently but fell to a third straight defeat after losing to Liverpool on Boxing Day.

As fans struggled to see the game due to the fog, Jordan Ayew shocked Anfield six minutes in as the Foxes rode a Liverpool storm before scoring on the counter attack to take the lead.

It looked as if the Foxes were going to go into the break 1-0 up until Cody Gakpo had ideas right on half time as he curled in a long-range effort.

Curtis Jones then scored straight after the break to give the hosts the lead before Mohamed Salah made sure of the win for Arne Slot’s men.

The loss means that Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men slip into the bottom three of the Premier League, one point behind Liverpool after Wolves’ win against Manchester United.

So, with that, Leicester City News graded the performance of those who played at Anfield.

Leicester City player ratings

Jakub Stolarczyk – 7

Thrown in at the deep end to make his debut after Van Nistelrooy confirmed he had dropped Danny Ward.

Couldn’t really do much to stop Liverpool’s equaliser and will be disappointed with his defence for the second goal.

Can hold his head up high tonight.

James Justin – 5

Allowed Gakpo to cut inside and find space for Liverpool’s goal on the stroke of half time.

Still seems to be a familiar problem though and it’s no wonder to see defensive options are being looked at by the Foxes.

Conor Coady – 6

A lot better than what we saw at the King Power Stadium last week as he returned to his boyhood club.

Jannik Vestergaard – 6

Much improved in comparison to other weeks and showed his experience as one of the leaders at the back but was caught out for the second goal by ball watching.

Victor Kristiansen – 7

His most daunting test of the season as he was pitted up against Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold but this was one of his best games in a Leicester shirt.

Dealt really well with them both for large portions of the game and will be encouraged ahead of another test in three days.

Boubakary Soumare – 6

Has been one of Leicester’s best players across the season and largely impressed apart from failing to track Jones for Liverpool’s second.

His work rate and desire to help out is night and day to what it was when he first joined and he has become a valued member of the squad.

Harry Winks – 6

A welcome return to the side. Lost the ball a few times but brought a calming presence into the midfield and against more winnable opponents will dominate the midfield.

Stephy Mavididi – 6

Had to adapt his game from someone who likes to be forward to help Victor Kristiansen out and was brilliant for the Foxes’ opening goal.

Bilal El Khannouss – 6

A different sort of performance tonight from Bilal El Khannouss, who has impressed Van Nistelrooy.

We saw his defensive side and he seriously impressed in the role. The 20-year-old is one of the first names on the team sheet right now.

Jordan Ayew – 7

Leicester fans were baffled to see Ayew start but he soon silenced those doubts with a lovely goal to give the Foxes the lead.

Did pick up another yellow card however and will miss Sunday’s game against Manchester City.

Patson Daka – 6

Tonight was always going to be a quiet night from an attacking perspective but he didn’t stop running and chasing all night long.

Squandered a great chance in the second half though which is something he must work on if he wants to be the side’s first choice striker.
