Leicester City return to Premier League action this weekend with a trip to south London to face Crystal Palace.

The Foxes are yet to win a league game after an opening-day draw against Tottenham Hotspur was followed up by back-to-back defeats against Fulham and Aston Villa.

Steve Cooper’s side face another difficult test in the capital as they face a Crystal Palace side who recruited well on transfer deadline day.

Both teams will have players lining up against their former clubs on Saturday so with that, let’s look at five players who have played for both Leicester and Palace.

A product of the Leicester youth system, Jeffrey Schlupp is a name familiar to both sides.

Schlupp scored a hat trick on his senior debut for the Foxes and went on to establish himself as the first-choice left-winger before eventually finding his home as a marauding full-back.

The Ghana international lost his place in the Leicester XI to Christian Fuchs in the 2015/16 Premier League title-winning season.

He then made the move to Palace in January 2017, where he has been ever since. Schlupp has over 200 appearances for the Eagles and has been utilised all across the pitch, notably as a central midfielder.

Although his time at the King Power Stadium was brief, Patrick van Aanholt is a familiar name to both sets of fans.

Van Aanholt joined the Foxes on loan in January 2011 and scored his first senior goal in professional football in a 4-0 win against Burnley.

He returned to Chelsea at the end of the 2010/11 season and wouldn’t join Palace until January 2017 following three years at Sunderland.

The Dutch international even scored against Leicester in Palace’s 5-0 hammering of the East Midlanders at Selhurst Park in April 2018.

Damien Delaney’s time at Leicester was short and sweet, but as it was the first club he joined in England, without the Foxes’ help, he may never have gone on to play for Palace.

Signed by Peter Taylor in 2000 from Cork City, Delaney featured eight times for Leicester before a host of loan spells away from the club.

Delaney would then eventually join Palace in 2012 on a short-term contract, initially until the end of the season.

His impressive display in the heart of defence saw him extend his stay in south London and he went on to play a huge role in their early Premier League days.

The Republic of Ireland international scored in the famous 3-3 draw against Liverpool and stayed until 2017 before returning home to re-sign for Cork.

Neil Danns

Not only did he have a great chant at Leicester, but Neil Danns also played for both clubs.

Unlike the previous three names, Palace was the first of the two clubs he played for, joining from Colchester in 2008.

Danns was a regular name among the Palace XI before departing on a free transfer to the Foxes in 2011.

He became Sven Goran-Eriksson’s second signing as manager at Leicester and was a regular feature under the former England boss and Nigel Pearson after he returned.

Popular with both fanbases, Danns is somebody who is always looked back at fondly.

Kevin Phillips

A Football League legend in his own right, Kevin Phillips played for both Palace and Leicester in the twilight of his career.

The Eagles and Foxes were the final two teams he would play for before hanging up his boots at the end of the 2013/14 season.

At Palace, it was Phillips’ extra-time winner from the penalty spot that saw them win the Championship play-offs and earn promotion to the Premier League in May 2013.

After leaving Selhurst Park in December of that year, the then-39-year-old signed a short-term deal until the end of the season at the King Power Stadium.

Phillips would once again prove to play a vital part in another club’s promotion push, scoring two goals for the Foxes – including one against title challengers Bournemouth – as the East Midlanders won the Championship with an astonishing 102 points.
