Leicester City have had many players over the years. Some have been successes, while others haven’t worked out and one is thriving away from the King Power Stadium.

One of the biggest successes in Leicester’s history is the club’s excellent academy.

Names such as Gary Lineker, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Ben Chilwell and Harvey Barnes have all come through in recent years.

Hamza Choudhury is very much still part of the first-team currently, as well as Luke Thomas, who excelled against Aston Villa recently.

Will Alves and Kasey McAteer are two others that have come through the Foxes academy and gone on to play for the senior squad.

Not everyone gets that opportunity though and some have to leave Leicester in order to find their feet in the professional game.

For one young talent, he did exactly that and now he’s reaping the rewards.

Tawanda Maswanhise left Leicester City after making one appearance

Tawanda Maswanhise is one of many names to have come through Leicester’s youth ranks, but fail to make it on the big stage.

Maswanhise was part of the Foxes’ youth system between 2018 and 2024 – a time when Leicester were challenging towards the top of the Premier League before falling into the second tier.

Leicester’s relegation to the Championship looked like it would present an opportunity for the Zimbabwe international to get some game time, but that didn’t come to fruition.

Instead, the only chance the winger was given was off the bench in the final stages of Leicester’s 3-2 win against Millwall in the Third Round of the FA Cup.

He made the tough decision to leave Leicester after 12 years, saying: “I want to thank the players and coaching staff throughout my journey at the club.

“I would also like to thank the fans for their massive support as I really enjoyed representing the club. Thanks for the beautiful memories.”

Tawanda Maswanhise is now Motherwell’s top scorer

Sometimes players need a change of scenery to get the best out of themselves, and it seems that’s worked wonders with Maswanhise.

After confirming his departure from Leicester, the 22-year-old opted to move north of the border to join Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership.

It’s a move that’s certainly paid off and the winger is loving life. From his 20 appearances, Maswanhise has five goals and four assists from 20 games, with 11 of them being starts.

He has more G/A contributions than any other player in the side and is their joint top scorer.

Furthermore, the winger bagged a goal and assist against Rangers and is now a fully established member of Zimbabwe’s national team set-up with five appearances.

It’s hard to know if he would’ve ever been a success at Leicester had he stayed but, right now, it appears he made the right decision.
