Highly-rated manager linked with Leicester job close to being appointed by La Liga side

A manager who was linked with the Leicester City job is close to being appointed by a struggling La Liga side.

Several names were linked with the Leicester job after Steve Cooper was sacked before Ruud van Nistelrooy was eventually confirmed by the Foxes.

The Dutchman has won one, drawn one and lost two of his four games in charge and despite a hit-and-miss start, is proving to be a relatively popular appointment.

Leicester could’ve gone with a completely different name and one of those linked now looks set to earn a move in the Spanish top flight.

Leicester-linked Carlos Corberan set for Valencia job

According to John Percy of The Telegraph, West Bromwich Albion boss Carlos Corberan is set to become the new Valencia manager.

Corberan was linked with Leicester before they chose Van Nistelrooy and is considered to be one of the best managers in the Championship.

Southampton and Wolves were also linked with a move for the former Huddersfield Town boss and after being linked with numerous jobs away from the West Midlands, looks set to leave The Hawthorns.

Former Leicester stars Ayoze Perez and Kelechi Iheanacho are both plying their trade in Spain, with Perez flourishing at Villarreal whereas Iheanacho could leave Sevilla in January.

How does Ruud van Nistelrooy compare to Carlos Corberan?

It’s still very early days into Van Nistelrooy’s tenure so it’s hard to definitively say if he has been a successful appointment.

There was plenty of clamour from Leicester supporters to appoint Corberan due to his excellent work on a limited budget.

Corberan has also had more experience as a manager having taken charge of almost 100 games more than the current Leicester boss.

Both managers have also lost less than half of their games in charge as a manager, however, Van Nistelrooy just edges it with a higher points-per-game average than his Spanish counterpart.
