Leicester City have made the decision to sack manager Steve Cooper on Sunday, November 24th.

Steve Cooper has become the second Premier League manager to be sacked in the 2024/25 season following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

After replacing Enzo Maresca over the summer, the 46-year-old took charge of just 12 league fixtures as Leicester City manager.

The Foxes picked up two wins in said games, drawing two and losing four while having the second-worst defensive record in the top flight.

Leicester confirmed they had sacked Cooper on Sunday afternoon in an official statement.

They wrote: “Leicester City Football Club has parted company with Steve Cooper, who leaves his position as First Team Manager with immediate effect.’

“Assistant Manager Alan Tate and First Team Coach and Analyst Steve Rands have also left the Club. Steve, Alan and Steve depart with our thanks for their contribution during their time with the Club and with our best wishes for the future.’

“Men’s First Team training will be overseen by First Team Coach Ben Dawson, supported by coaches Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes, as the Club begins the process of appointing a new manager, which we hope to conclude as soon as possible.”

Leicester City looked at Graham Potter before appointing Steve Cooper

Cooper replaced now-Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca in the dugout on June 20th, 2024.

Prior to the former Nottingham Forest manager arriving in the Midlands, however, it has now been revealed that the club also looked at Graham Potter as an option.

Speaking live on talkSPORT following Cooper’s dismal on Sunday, journalist Jason Bourne confirmed Leicester were keen on Potter before moving for Cooper.

He said: “The club wanted to give Steve Cooper as long as possible, but didn’t feel he would be able to overcome the issues in the timeframe needed.

“There’s no expectation of a quick appointment at present, but club were very keen on Potter in the summer before appointing Cooper.”

Given Potter’s track record in the Premier League with Brighton and Hove Albion and the style of football he plays, the Englishman would be the perfect replacement for Cooper.

Leicester City fans make stance on Graham Potter appointment clear

Potter has been linked with Leicester previously and after the news on Sunday, he is once again a topic of conversation.

Leicester City fans have reacted to the Cooper sacking over the weekend and made their feelings on potential replacement clear.

Right now, the Foxes’ faithful want to see either Ruud van Nistelrooy or Potter installed into the dugout in the coming weeks.

Both managers should, on paper, be available to Leicester after the former left Manchester United following the arrival of Ruben Amorim and Potter has been out of work since 2023.
