Leicester City supporters have run out of patience with manager Steve Cooper and are demanding him to be sacked during the international break.

Leicester were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Manchester United on Saturday, as the Foxes extended their winless run in all competitions to four matches.

It was a pretty abject performance for many involved, with left-back Victor Kristiansen producing a poor display, as many fans called for Steve Cooper to be sacked after the loss to Man United.

Cooper’s appointment in the summer was an unpopular call among the fanbase, as he didn’t align with their vision of playing expansive, attacking football.

Supporters have accused Cooper of being too defensive in matches, with the former England under-17 manager not covering himself in glory so far.

It could have been a whole lot different, though, had Leicester got their hands on another one of their managerial targets.

Leicester City wanted Ruud van Nistelrooy to replace Enzo Maresca

When drafting up replacements for Enzo Maresca, who left for Chelsea during the summer, Ruud van Nistelrooy was a name that was linked.

As reported by Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Foxes weighed up the former Manchester United striker as a replacement for Maresca.

Van Nistelrooy left Eredivisie giants PSV Eindhoven last year after winning the Dutch Cup while also playing the role of assistant manager to Guus Hiddink for the Netherlands national side.

Despite links to the Foxes, among many other jobs, the 48-year-old joined the Red Devils as an assistant coach on a two-year deal in July.

Returning to the Premier League after leaving in 2006, van Nistelrooy then became caretaker manager of United in October following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, overseeing three wins in his four games in charge.

The Dutch tactician was then told to leave the club on Monday to make way for Ruben Amorim and his staff to arrive at Old Trafford.

Leicester fans have since been discussing potential replacements for Cooper, and van Nistelrooy is one name that stands out.

Leicester fans want van Nistelrooy to replace Steve Cooper

Following the news of his departure from United, Foxes supporters have called for van Nistelrooy to succeed Cooper at the King Power Stadium.

One supporter said: “Cooper out, Ruud in? I wouldn’t say no,” while another added: “Ruud IN.”

Someone also mentioned how Jamie Vardy working with van Nistelrooy would be special after he broke the Dutchman’s record for most goals scored in consecutive Premier League games in 2015 (11).

“Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Jamie Vardy at the same club? That moment he broke it”, a third responded.

A fifth exclaimed: “Van Nistelrooy has shown more competence and tactical knowledge in 2 games than Cooper has done in 11, and even earlier since he joined!”.

“I’m now a YES,” another supporter said in response to van Nistelrooy becoming manager.

Van Nistelrooy did an excellent job in his short time in the dugout at Old Trafford but it remains to be seen whether that is enough to convince Leicester to fire Cooper and hire him.
