Manchester United fans have a lot to say about Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy after free transfer mooted

Jamie Vardy has less than six months remaining on his Leicester City contract and Manchester United fans have been discussing a potential transfer.

In the modern era at least, when it comes to Leicester City, there is no player more associated with the club than Jamie Vardy.

The striker’s story is a remarkable one, rising from the depths of the National League all the way up to the Premier League.

Vardy broke Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record in the English top flight for most consecutive games scored in and, of course, helped the Foxes clinch their first and only Premier League title.

Despite now being 38, the former England international remains a key cog at the King Power Stadium, scoring seven and assisting three in the league this term.

However, with his contract due to expire at the end of June, his future in the Midlands is up in the air.

Manchester United fans on signing Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy

Now, a report from The Atheltic this week has suggested Vardy could be an option for Manchester United alongside Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin owing to the Red Devils’ financial position.

After the news emerged, Man Utd fans have taken to social media to express their thoughts on a potential Vardy transfer, with opinion split.

One fan wrote: “Vardy still plays like he is 25 years old! Will take him anytime, a lot of our young strikers can learn so much from him.”

A second added: “Vardy would cook, I can’t lie,” while another stated: “I’d actually buzz if we signed Vardy.”

While some Man Utd fans were excited at the prospect of landing the veteran striker, one really wasn’t, writing: “Jamie Vardy? Are you kidding me? No way”

“Vardy has more Premier League goals than Hojlund and Zirkzee combined. As a backup for one year, I wouldn’t mind,” another stated.

A fifth Manchester United supporter stated: “Would take Vardy, proven goalscorer,” and a sixth claimed: “Vardy, would rather bring the youth through.”

A seventh Red Devils fan questioned: “Both are not Man Utd level, will Vardy be fit for a full season?”

Leicester City stance on Jamie Vardy future should be clear

In most cases, when a player turns 38 and has a few months to run on their contract, it makes sense to release them.

However, Leicester would be pretty foolish if they did not at least attempt to tie Vardy down for another 12 months.

Their centre-forward situation is already bleak and the Foxes’ PSR problems mean big-money additions are probably unlikely in the summer transfer window, no matter what league they are playing in.

Leicester sold Tom Cannon in January and have now been left with just Vardy and Patson Daka as permanent options.

In turn, letting Vardy leave for free would be a mistake as they would need to sign at least two more number nines later this year, something they probably can’t afford to do.
