Paul Merson has been proven right after what he said about Leicester City’s meeting with Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend.

Leicester City headed into the game on the back of seven straight defeats in the Premier League.

It looked certain the Foxes would be relegated but a shock 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur has given the club new hope.

Richarlison put the home side 1-0 up after 33 minutes, with Leicester fans no doubt fearing the worst after that.

However, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men were much improved in the second 45, netting twice shortly after the break via Jamie Vardy and Bilal El Khannouss to earn a valuable three points.

Even with Spurs in poor form this term, few supporters likely expected their club to come out on top but what Paul Merson said ahead of the match was spot-on.

What Paul Merson said about Tottenham vs Leicester City

The former Middlesbrough and Arsenal player is not exactly known for his excellent predictions or opinions.

But Merson made his prediction for Tottenham vs Leicester last week and was pretty spot on with what he said.

Firstly, he backed the Midlands outfit to come away with a 2-1 victory on the day, which they did.

He also expected Vardy to cause Tottenham problems, which again, the striker did did despite recent struggles in front of goal.

Merson stated: “Considering how Spurs play, Jamie Vardy can cause them a lot of problems in this game. If Leicester can ride their luck and Tottenham have an off day, even if it’s just in front of goal like against Ipswich earlier this season, they have a chance.

“If Leicester and Vardy can trouble Tottenham with their counter-attack, we might witness a result that will set the cat among the pigeons!”

What Ruud van Nistelrooy said about Jamie Vardy after Tottenham

Vardy has been off his game for Leicester, failing to provide a single goal contribution in his previous six league appearances.

But Merson was spot-on in his claim the 38-year-old would cause issues for Spurs.

The striker played some of his best football of the campaign, seeing Vardy earn praise from Van Nistelrooy after the fact.

He said: “He is a leader by example. He is still producing. The respect from the team and the staff at this club for him is huge. He is also delivering.”
