Leicester City ‘on the lookout’ for teenage sensation who is rivalling Jamie Vardy on the goal front

Despite turning 38 this month, Jamie Vardy is still Leicester City’s top scorer in the 2024/25 season.

Leicester City wanted to sign a striker during the 2024 summer transfer window, missing out on goal-machine Santiago Gimenez, who could now be on his way to AC Milan.

The Foxes eventually settled on the loan addition of Odsonne Edouard from Crystal Palace but that transfer has not worked out.

Edouard remains without a goal in the Premier League and is very rarely included in matchday squads by Ruud van Nistelrooy.

This has seen a big burden put on Jamie Vardy this season, with the former England international still the club’s only real goal threat.

The 38-year-old has six Premier League goals and seven across all competitions in 2024/25, but Vardy’s Leicester form has dipped recently.

In turn, it makes sense for the club to be eyeing other options that can share some of the goalscoring burden.

Leicester City eye move for Cyriaque Irie

As well as Vardy having to provide the majority of the club’s goals this term, Leicester were dealt a major injury blow earlier in the campaign.

Abdul Fatawu is now out for the remainder of the season, leaving Van Nistelrooy short of quality options on the wing.

However, the potential signing of Cyriaque Ire could fill the void left by Fatawu while adding some firepower to the Foxes’ frontline.

Journalist Santi Aouna has reported this week that Leicester are ‘on the lookout’ for the 19-year-old, who is currently plying his trade with Troyes.

However, French outfit Lens are also interested in the player and are said to have made an offer totaling €10m, though the Ligue 2 side are believed to want more.

Everything Leicester City fans need to know about Cyriaque Irie

Irie began his playing career in Burkina Faso with Real du Faso before securing a transfer to Dijon in July 2023.

He made 26 appearances for their senior side, scoring seven goals and providing three assists before being snapped up by Troyes this past summer.

For his current club, the winger has already found the net six times and provided two assists in 23 outings this term.

Irie is a natural right-winger so should be well-suited to replace Fatawu. But he is very versatile, excelling as a centre-forward and on the opposite flank.
