The Ruud van Nistelrooy era at Leicester City looks to be coming to an end after a disastrous five months in charge.

Leicester are second bottom in the Premier League after eight losses on the spin and a whopping 15 points from safety.

On Monday night, Leicester lost against Newcastle and there were deafening cries for Van Nistelrooy to be sacked as a campaign in the Championship looms.

Van Nistelrooy refused to commit his future to Leicester after defeat against the Magpies, raising questions of how much longer he could be in the dugout.

Liam Rosenior is admired by the Foxes and the Englishman is one of several names on their list of potential replacements.

Ruud van Nistelrooy won’t ‘walk away’ from Leicester City

With each passing week, Van Nistelrooy continues to damage his reputation as a manager. Leicester created more unwanted history on Monday, becoming the first team in the Premier League to lose eight matches in a row without scoring.

Matt Piper blasted the Leicester players post-match, claiming he’s never seen it this bad at the King Power Stadium, and much of that blame can be put on the former Man United striker.

But despite winning just two of his 18 Premier League matches in charge of the Foxes, Van Nistelrooy refuses to ‘walk away’ from the challenge, as he explained in Thursday’s pre-match press conference ahead of the visit to Brighton.

“I don’t want to walk away from anything, and that’s happening now,” he said via X.

“I do my job. I’m committed to working with the players, the club, to fight through this. To show we want to and we can break this cycle. I’m doing my job as long as I’m needed.”

The above comments suggest that he will stay at the club till end of the campaign and then Leicester will make the relevant managerial change.

Options to replace Van Nistelrooy at Leicester

Once Leicester send Van Nistelrooy packing, there are several options on their radar, and it’s important they make the right decision.

Rosenior has emerged as a target, and he’s doing brilliant things with Strasbourg in Ligue 1 while Leicester have been linked with Danny Rohl.

Some other names on their list could include Russell Martin and Cesc Fabregas, who currently manages Como in Serie A.

It appears City are spoilt for choice in terms of options but it just depends on who fancies the pressure of leading them back into the Premier League next season.
