Sunderland posed a serious challenge to Leicester’s winning run last night in one of the hardest games of the season.

Leicester walked out 1-0 victors over their determined challengers at the King Power Stadium, this moved the Foxes up to eight wins on the bounce.

The game was really close and was difficult to call with both teams having chances and honestly, a draw would’ve been fair. Enzo Maresca was delighted post-game and admitted the game made him ‘most happy’.

But despite all this, somehow Maresca’s side still managed to find a way to win the game.

This left the league leaders eight points clear at the top of the table and 14 points above the playoff spots.

Now, Maresca’s Leicester have been tipped as heirs to the title by Tony Mowbray.

Mowbray on Leicester’s brilliance

Speaking after the game, as Leicestershire Live reported, Mowbray couldn’t help but admit his opponents are just too good.

“We’re not finishing above Leicester City, I think Leicester will win the league.”

With players like the excellent Harry Winks it is difficult to imagine anyone stopping Leicester.

This made especially likely given history is on their side after such an immaculate run to start the season.

How many points can Leicester get?

The question many will be pondering is just how many points can Leicester get this season.

So the absolute best-case scenario for the Foxes is to look at the current record through 13 games with 36 points. This comes out at 2.77 points per game through the first 13 as per FBRef.

So 2.77 points per game through 46 would give Leicester 127 points in total. A truly record-smashing tally.

Even in the event of a few losses, Leicester would still on track to break all the records.
