When Leicester City will discover whether they’ve breached PSR as supporters face anxious wait

Leicester City’s Premier League survival hopes would take a huge blow if they are found guilty of breaching spending rules.

In the three years before the 2022/23 campaign, Leicester breached the Premier League’s spending rules.

While the Foxes won their PSR case when Everton and Nottingham Forest lost theirs, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men could experience a similar outcome to their rival clubs last term.

One finance expert believes Leicester will receive a points deduction after believing they’ve broken the rules, with it difficult to see how they’ve accumulated enough profit in player sales to avoid a punishment.

The situation currently looks bleak for the Premier League strugglers and now, it’s become clear when supporters will discover their fate.

Leicester will discover the PSR verdict by Tuesday 14th January

A report by The Telegraph now suggests that Leicester will find out whether they’ve breached PSR by Tuesday, January 14th, leaving supporters with an anxious wait.

The Foxes will be found guilty of breaking the rules if they have exceeded the permitted losses of £83 million over a three-year reporting period.

As suggested above, finance expert Adam Williams thinks there’s no way the Foxes haven’t breached this rule, and will therefore face a point deduction.

Leicester are currently 19th in the Premier League table, two points from safety, meaning the idea of a deduction could be detrimental to their hopes of survival.

Van Nistelrooy was aware of Leicester’s PSR situation before he signed the contract after having conversations with the owner and Director of Football John Rudkin.

However, the clubs’ current dire situation and a poor transfer window could result in the Dutchman jumping ship.

Ruud van Nistelrooy could leave Leicester City if he’s not backed

The Athletic broke the news on Wednesday that van Nistelrooy could leave Leicester if he isn’t backed in the January transfer window.

The former Manchester United striker has a history of leaving clubs when things aren’t on his terms, departing PSR after not being supported by the board.

Leicester will need to avoid this fate by backing him this month, although spending the millions they need to survive seems unlikely.

That being said, Leicester do need to sign a defender at the very least, along with a winger to finally fill the void of Abdul Fatawu’s long-term injury.

Failure to achieve either goal and van Nistelrooy could be given no other choice but to walk from the King Power Stadium, and that is something that isn’t worth thinking about.
