£60m deal highlighted how inept Jon Rudkin is, Leicester City owner must sack him now

Leicester City are in the midst of an awful season and that is in no small part down to Jon Rudkin’s poor management of the club over the years.

Leicester City have already sacked one manager this season and brought in Ruud van Nistelrooy in a bid to avoid the drop.

However, the Dutchman is currently on a run of just one win from 10 in the Premier League, seeing the Foxes slip down to 19th.

Whether or not Van Nistelrooy was the right man for the job remains to be seen as while results remain awful, Leicester have looked slightly better in recent games.

However, given how badly the club has been run over the years, it probably wouldn’t have mattered who they brought in to take over from Steve Cooper.

The man largely responsible for all of this is Jon Rudkin, who has become an increasingly unpopular figure at the King Power Stadium this season.

Riyad Mahrez transfer highlighted poor Leicester City recruitment under Jon Rudkin

Fans have called for Rudkin to be sacked, most recently doing so in the 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on Saturday.

Leicester fans planned a protest in the 14th minute against the Gunenrs and Rudkin, as shown in the image above, was one of their main targets.

Poor recruitment under the Foxes chief is not new, however, with Leicester famously missing out on Adrien Silva in August 2017 after missing the deadline by just 14 seconds.

A year later, Rudkin’s inept nature was highlighted once more after the Midlands outfit had sold Riyad Mahrez to Manchester City for a £60m fee – as per BBC Sport.

Mahrez was one of Leicester’s best and most important players but their attempts to replace him were laughable.

They signed Rachid Ghezzal from AS Monaco in August 2018, who played just 23 games and scored three goals before being moved on.

In the end, Leicester had to stick with an experienced Demarai Gray and Marc Albrighton to try and make up for Mahrez’s absence.

Leicester City owner must sack Jon Rudkin

£60m is no small chunk of change and was an even bigger fee in 2018, yet Leicester’s recruitment following that money arriving was terrible.

They had the perfect chance to sign a quality replacement for Mahrez with nearly two months of the summer transfer window to go when he left but, as is still the case in 2024/25, their recruitment under Rudkin was dire.

Whether Leicester get relegated or escape the drop this season doesn’t really change much in the long term because as long as he’s at the club, things won’t get better for a while.
