Leicester City have recalled Tom Cannon from his loan spell at Stoke City.

The Foxes confirmed that Cannon had been recalled on Wednesday after enjoying a beneficial loan in Staffordshire.

Cannon was Stoke’s top scorer with 11 goals in all competitions but the forward is wanted by several Championship clubs.

Sunderland are reportedly preparing a £13m bid for Cannon and the timing of his recall comes as interest continues to build.

Ruud van Nistelrooy hinted at recalling Cannon in his press conference this week and now that the news is officially out, it hasn’t gone down well with Stoke supporters.

Stoke City fans react to Tom Cannon returning to Leicester

It’s been a difficult campaign for Stoke who are sitting in a lowly 19th in the Championship.

There had been little to cheer about for the Potters but the 22-year-old was a bright spark.

Cannon scored four goals in one game for Stoke against Portsmouth and found the back of the net in his final game for the club as Stoke beat the club in for him, Sunderland on Saturday.

The Foxes’ decision to recall him has left a sour taste in the mouth of some Stoke fans, who are less than happy with Leicester.

“Massive loss this is,we’ve not had anyone like him for years,I just hope we’ve got something lined up and quick,” wrote one fan.

This user said: “Massive loss this and currently have a strikeforce of Lowe, Tezgal and Ennis. Need couple good strikers or we are bang in trouble.”

Another commented: “Do one Leicester.

“Cheers Leicester crying now,” said a fourth.

A fifth stated: “Van Nistelrooy has a bounty on his head.”

Will Tom Cannon play for Leicester?

It’s the big question on everyone’s lips right: Will Tom Cannon play for Leicester?

If he is to be sold, the simple answer is no.

Due to FIFA rules, players cannot represent more than two clubs across a single domestic season.

Some Leicester fans hope Cannon stays after being recalled, but it doesn’t seem likely at this stage.

But, if he were to play for the Foxes at any point before the end of this season, he wouldn’t be able to play for another team until next season at the earliest.

Van Nistelrooy has a big decision to make on his future and time will tell to see if he still has a future at the King Power Stadium.
