Leicester City have endured a torrid start to the 2024/25 Premier League season and will be looking to the transfer market to turn their fortunes around.

Leicester City are being given a welcome break from league football this weekend, instead facing Queens Park Rangers in the FA Cup.

But Premier League football returns next week with the Foxes facing Crystal Palace at home on January 15th.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side head into that game 19th in the division with a staggering 44 goals already conceded from 20 matches.

Only Wolverhampton Wanderers (45) have shipped more goals than Leicester in the 2024/25 campaign to date.

In turn, defenders should be targeted during the winter window to fix this glaring issue.

Leicester City could sign former Real Madrid star to fix defence

James Justin has been woeful for Leicester this term and a replacement for the Englishman is clearly needed.

Victor Kristiansen has largely operated in the other full-back spot for the Foxes this season but he too has struggled.

Van Nistelrooy was warned about Kristiansen’s weakness late last month, with the left-back often struggling against quality wingers.

However, Ruud could solve that problem by signing a free agent who previously dominated Europe with Real Madrid.

Marcelo joined Los Blancos in 2007, going on to win countless trophies before eventually leaving in 2022.

The left-back has since had spells with Olympiacos and Fluminense but left the latter on November 3rd and is now a free agent.

The Brazilian might be past his prime but his raw talent and years of experience would prove invaluable to Leicester in their quest to avoid the drop.

What Ruud van Nistelrooy has said about Leicester City transfers

Despite it obvious new players are needed at the club, the Foxes haven’t made a signing this month.

Ahead of their clash with QPR this weekend, however, Van Nistlerooy was quizzed on Leicester transfers and gave an honest response.

He said: “We’re in the middle of the process. It’s clear where we want to strengthen. We’re working on that day and night. I feel a strong responsibility to get the right players in.

“It’s a delicate process. It takes time. It requires a lot of effort and work to bring in the right players.

“We’ve been creating a style of play and players who fit into that are the profiles who can get us to better results.

“Those are the profiles we have been talking about with recruitment and the people responsible for signing these players. It started in December and hopefully we can present something soon.”

With Premier League action returning in under a week, fans are no doubt hoping Leicester have signed at least one name by then.
