Leicester City may need to look for a new manager to replace Ruud van Nistelrooy before the season is over.

Leicester City appointed Ruud van Nistelrooy as manager in late November, taking charge of his first match on December 3rd versus West Ham United.

The Foxes won that tie 3-1 before going on to draw 2-2 with Brighton and Hove Albion in their following fixture.

It’s been all downhill from there, however, with the Dutchman guiding Leicester to a staggering 10 defeats in their following 11 games.

After the Foxes lost to Brentford in convincing fashion on Friday, discontent around Ruud has begun to grow.

Sean Dyche has been mooted to replace Van Nistelrooy by supporters but Leicester may not need to look too far to find themselves a new manager.

Andy King could replace Ruud van Nistelrooy as caretaker manager

While fans are no doubt desperate to see change at their club, whether that be in the dugout or at board level, their finances may limit their ability to do too much this season.

The Leicester owner’s stance on sacking Van Nistelrooy was made clear in a conversation with players late in 2024, with ‘Top’ suggesting another manager change would be very bad for their financial situation.

In turn, if Ruud does have to go, it may be a good chance for Andy King to step up as caretaker for the rest of the season.

King joined Leicester’s coaching staff on an official basis early this week and is already proving valuable.

Ruud van Nistelrooy comments on Andy King

King was, of course, a part of the Leicester team that completed a miraculous escape from relegation in the 2014/15 season before going on to win the title in the following campaign.

Now, as per Leicestershire Live, Van Nistelrooy has been discussing the ‘very valuable’ coach and how the Foxes can draw on his experience.

He said: “Of course. Those experiences are the things we can use as examples.

“You can lose a certain amount of games but there’s always, in football, a turnaround if you keep working and if you keep preparing yourselves.

“That’s also his message. That turnaround didn’t come out of the blue. That turnaround was sticking to the plan, working, believing.

“That’s how they managed to turn it around. That’s what he shared and that’s very valuable.”
