Leicester City could be on the hunt for another new manager as the pressure under Ruud van Nistelrooy intensifies.

Van Nistelrooy’s future is in doubt after Leicester broke a 141-year record for losing eight home games in a row without scoring.

Expert journalist Graeme Bailey hinted that the Dutchman could leave and speculation has become rife about who could take over.

Liam Rosenior is one named linked with the the Foxes and Danny Rohl is another, but the biggest wildcard is Russell Martin.

After being sacked by Southampton, Martin has been eyed up due to his similarity to Enzo Maresca and the recent links will be music to the ears of one Leicester star.

One of the key cogs in the Maresca side that made everything tick was Harry Winks.

Last season, Winks featured in all-but-one of the league games as Leicester won the Championship title.

Under Steve Cooper, Winks featured heavily but never aligned with him and was one of the Leicester players who partied hours after Cooper’s sacking.

It’s a similar story under Van Nistelrooy but with Martin, Winks would excel.

With a focus on possession, the 29-year-old would be the orchestrator in the middle of the park, controlling the tempo and feel much more at home under a style of play that he benefitted from so much.

Harry Winks’ 23/24 stats compared to 24/25 season shows why Russell Martin would get the best out of him

Even by his own admission, Winks’ form has drastically fallen off this season.

As one of the senior players in the squad, the former England international was labelled as one of the key figures who would be vital in the club’s Premier League survival battle.

That hasn’t come to fruition though. Having played over 50 per cent fewer games this season, Winks is down in metrics in terms of goals, shots and passes.

Assists and pass completion rate are higher but the latter is only marginally better and unlike last season, hasn’t contributed to an upturn in results.
