The transfer window may be shut but Ruud van Nistelrooy could find himself conducting business outside the window at Leicester City.

Leicester ended deadline day with frustratingly just one signing through the door after Woyo Coulibaly was captured from Parma in January.

Despite wanting to sign four new players, Ruud van Nistelrooy had no issue only bringing in one, understanding the situation Leicester have found themselves in with PSR.

That was perhaps a surprising response from the Dutchman, who tried to bring multiple players through the King Power Stadium doors during the transfer window.

There was even some rumoured activity on deadline day. Relegation rivals Wolves wanted to sign Conor Coady in a swap deal with Craig Dawson but Leicester rejected the proposal.

Now, some interesting news has emerged regarding Dawson and it could prompt the Foxes into making a U-turn.

Wolves in talks to terminate Craig Dawson’s contract

According to Express & Star journalist Liam Keen, Wolves are in talks with Dawson to cancel his contract as manager Vitor Pereira doesn’t see him as part of his plans.

The veteran defender is set to be omitted from their latest Premier League squad alongside forward Sasa Kalajdzic.

Wolves completed a double deadline day swoop for centre-back Nasser Djiga and midfielder Marshall Munetsi, meaning there is no space in the roster for Dawson.

Since taking over the Wanderers in December, the 34-year-old has totalled just 86 minutes of Premier League action, starting once in a 2-2 draw against Tottenham.

News of the Englishman potentially exiting Molineux should prick the ears of Van Nistelrooy, who could lend a short-term defensive option.

Leicester should try and sign Dawson

If Dawson’s contract gets terminated, Leicester should quickly pounce and sign him.

Admittedly, Leicester have struggled with a lack of pace in defence this term, being caught out by Van Nistelrooy’s high line.

Wout Faes and Jannik Vestergaard were woeful against Everton last weekend. In that regard, Dawson doesn’t fix their problem, but he could be perfect if Van Nistelrooy changes the system to a three-man defence.

The 34-year-old, who has totalled over 300 Premier League appearances, would be ideal for that middle centre-back slot.

He’s a commanding presence physically and he can read the game superbly. Dawson would also be a vital figure in the dressing room, offering his experience in how to survive the drop.

Leicester would only need to sign him on a six-month deal, perhaps with the option of a further year, but in their desperate need to keep clean sheets, signing Dawson on a free could be a genuine option.
