The new year is finally here and Leicester City will be waiting to see what’s in store for the Foxes in 2025.

After a successful first half of 2024 which saw Enzo Maresca and co lift the Championship title, it’s been a more difficult second half of the year.

Maresca departed for Chelsea, taking boyhood Foxes fan Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Stamford Bridge with him.

Steve Cooper was appointed in the summer but failed to connect with the fans and players, with Cooper banishing one Leicester star from the dressing room.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was appointed in November and has been in charge for just over a month but has work to do.

Leicester end the year 19th in the Premier League and are planning a big transfer window in order to retain their top flight status.

Several things need to change and here at Leicester City News, we’ve picked out three New Year resolutions that the Foxes should make for the coming year.

Leicester must sign a centre-back

The first New Year resolution is one that can address immediately in the January transfer window.

Defence has been a huge issue for the Foxes, who have conceded 42 goals in the Premier League so far.

Van Nistelrooy knows that his options in centre-back are weak and Leicester are targeting one.

Several centre-backs have been linked with the Foxes and if they are to get one, maybe two, over the line it could be huge going forward.

Secure Premier League survival

The biggest resolution of them all: stay up and secure Premier League survival.

It seems obvious to say but it’s the one thing everyone wants at the King Power Stadium.

Van Nistelrooy and co are aware of how big the task is and Leicester right now are at a disadvantage as they sit inside the bottom three.

After Aston Villa away on 4 January, the Foxes have a favourable run of fixtures that they must take advantage of. Anywhere 17th and above is a huge success and something they can build off.

It won’t be easy, but this has to be the primary focus.

Hand Jamie Vardy a new contract

Jamie Vardy is turning 38 in January, but as he’s shown this season, has no plans to slow down any time soon.

Vardy is Leicester’s top scorer this season and is one of the three Foxes players out of contract in 2025 but has a lot more to give.

The Leicester captain is eight goals shy of 150 Premier League goals – an incredible achievement for someone who played his first top flight game aged 27.

He is the heart and soul of Leicester and if there is still life in him, a new deal should be given to him to keep him at all costs.
