Three ways Leicester City can save their season, including decision on £13m star

Time is running out on Leicester City’s season and Premier League survival is looking more and more difficult.

Leicester’s loss against Fulham was the seventh in a row in the Premier League as Foxes fans made their thoughts clear on Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Defeat also means that the East Midlanders remain 19th in the table and at the time of writing are two points behind 17th placed Wolves, who travel to Chelsea on Monday night.

Large sections of the fanbase are also turning on the Leicester owners and chants of “sack the board” could be heard ringing around the King Power Stadium.

Thankfully, there is still time to save this season but Van Nistelrooy and co must act quickly to get these implemented and give themselves a fighting chance.

Make some transfers

It sounds simple on paper, but nothing boosts morale amongst a fanbase quite like signing a new player.

Only one player has joined Leicester this transfer window and it is so obvious that they need more.

A centre-back, forward and goalkeeper seem to be on the shopping list, however, we’ve passed the halfway point of the window and those reinforcements don’t look like they’re happening anytime soon.

Take the pressure off Jamie Vardy

It’s remarkable, both positively and negatively, that Jamie Vardy is still leading the line for Leicester at the age of 38.

Vardy was poor against Fulham on Saturday but is still the Foxes’ top scorer with seven goals this season.

Patson Daka has failed to set the world alight following his return from injury whilst Odsonne Edouard could head to Atlanta for £15m.

That leaves a lack of options in a an area Leicester are desperate for improvement in having drawn blanks in five of Van Nistelrooy’s nine games in charge.

He’s proved himself time and time again over the years, but Vardy can’t do it all on his own.

Complete Tom Cannon sale to raise funds

This third point may seem counter-productive given that we’ve highlighted the struggles Vardy is facing on his own, but Leicester need money to make transfers.

Sheffield United are linked with a £13m deal for Tom Cannon – a move that would be a huge profit on the £7.5m paid for his services in 2023.

Three managers have been in charge of Leicester since Cannon’s arrival and none of them have been enamoured by him.

Some Leicester fans are adamant they should keep Cannon but when you’re being offered money like this, taking it and reinvesting it back into the playing squad is essential.

A ‘better’ calibre of player can be targeted to fill one of those positions and provide a boost, and maybe the ingredients, to secure Premier League survival.
