Uninspiring Steve Cooper comment before Ipswich Town shows why Leicester City fans are sick of him

It is fair to say Steve Cooper has not had the best of times since becoming Leicester City manager.

Steve Cooper was appointed to the dugout at the King Power Stadium after promotion-winning boss Enzo Maresca left to join Chelsea.

Leicester City have struggled somewhat upon their return to the Premier League and remain firmly in the relegation picture after nine fixtures.

After a run of six games without a single victory, Cooper responded to Leicester fan criticism, with some already calling for his head at that stage.

The Foxes were in serious trouble when October began and potential replacements for the former Nottingham Forest boss were already being discussed.

After improving Middlesbrough over the last few years, Michael Carrick was touted as an option to replace Cooper.

The pressure on the 46-year-old was relieved somewhat after wins against Southampton and Bournemouth but the dwindling fan sentiment has returned in full force this week.

Steve Cooper comment before Ipswich Town vs Leicester City should anger fans

The Midlands outfit were beaten 3-1 by Nuno Espirito Santo’s Forest on Friday last week.

This was followed by a 5-2 drubbing at the hands of Manchester United in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

After that game, Leicester fans called for Cooper to be sacked, with it clear they have already had enough of the Englishman.

Now, his latest comments ahead of their meeting with Ipswich on Saturday will likely only serve to anger fans even more and prove exactly why they want to see changes in the dugout.

Speaking to the media recently, as per Leicestershire Live, Cooper was quizzed on his side’s leaky defence and gave a rather uninspiring response.

He said: “I won’t hide away from the goals we’ve conceded. We need to focus on our concentration and be present in the moment.

“We’re in a ruthless environment where you do get punished.

“We need to get the balance right and to tip it our way so we’re scoring more than we’re conceding.”

Steve Cooper to blame for Leicester City problem

The final line of that quote is so uninspiring, basic, and very reminiscent of the type of thing Michael Owen would be mocked for on social media.

Leicester’s inability to stop conceding so many goals is a massive issue and could cost them a spot in the Premier League, yet Cooper’s comments are unlikely to do anything more than anger fans.

The ire toward the boss could grow even more against Ipswich if he once again opts to start James Justin.

Justin was at fault for four goals vs Manchester United and has been very poor in the Premier League this term.

Despite this, Cooper continues to play the defender even though it is blatantly obvious he is a massive reason behind their poor defensive record.
