A former Leicester City player has endured a tough spell since ending his stint at the King Power Stadium.

After securing promotion from the Championship in the 2023/24 season, Leicester City made a lot of changes to their squad.

Enzo Maresca was replaced by Steve Cooper in the dugout after the former left for Chelsea, being joined at Stamford Bridge by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Meanwhile, Tom Cannon is now set to join Sheffield United after being allowed to leave on loan over the summer.

Another centre-forward also departed the club in the 2024 summer transfer window with Kelechi Iheanacho securing a free transfer to Sevilla.

However, the former Manchester City ace has not had the best start to life in Spain.

Kelechi Iheanacho could be released by Sevilla in January

At the time of writing, the striker is still yet to get off the mark in La Liga this season.

Sevilla’s manager defended Iheanacho over his weight in a recent interview, but questions are already being asked over his future in Spain.

West Bromwich Albion and Watford were linked with the former Leicester star in December and a new club has now joined the race for the Sevilla flop.

A report from Relevo has claimed that Greek outfit Panathinaikos are interested in signing the forward this month.

Surprisingly, it is added that Sevilla are already willing to let him leave and could release him for free just six months after he signed.

What Kelechi Iheanacho said after leaving Leicester City

After joining from Man City, the 28-year-old made 232 appearances across all competitions for Leicester.

He also scored 61 goals, provided 34 assists and won four trophies, the last of which was the Championship.

While things haven’t worked out for Iheanacho at Sevilla, he seemingly enjoyed his time at the King Power.

On his exit, as per Leicestershire Live, he said: “Last season was one of mixed emotions. I played the first half of the season but I didn’t really get a chance in the second part of the season. But most importantly, as a team, we won the trophy.

“We were a good group together. We did it for all of us and for the football club. That was the most important thing. It’s a nice football club and a good family. It was great to end with a smile and a trophy.”
