A Leicester City centre-back is set for a move away from the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes still have work to do on Deadline Day, with a striker signing seemingly taking priority for Steve Cooper side.

This is a result of possible exits to the likes of Tom Cannon, with Championship sides circling for the striker.

Cannon, who has expressed his desire to leave the club after it was made clear that he doesn’t have a future under Cooper, is also joined by a Leicester City defender who is set to move away from the King Power Stadium.

Championship clubs are in the hunt for the Foxes defender, and a loan move appears the most likely route at this moment in time.

Leicester City defender Ben Nelson set for loan to Championship club

Foxes centre-back Ben Nelson is set for a move away from the club in a loan deal, with Sunderland, Oxford United, Portsmouth, Swansea City and West Brom quoted as the ‘possible destinations’ for the defender, per Tom Collomose on X.

The 20-year-old Englishman managed just five appearances for Leicester City in the Championship, however was praised by former Foxes manager Enzo Maresca, who labelled Nelson as ‘perfect’ due to his versatility of being able to play either on the left-or-right.

Nelson also managed two FA Cup starting appearances last season, managing a clean-sheet against fellow Championship side Birmingham City.

Championship loan will provide perfect stepping stone for Ben Nelson

Promotion to the Premier League undoubtedly diminished any chances of Nelson being handed game time this season after a fairly limited amount of action in the 2023/24 campaign.

However, a loan move to the Championship this season would be perfect as he looks to get up to speed to what is a high level of football, and a successful season would undoubtedly see him in the running as one of Leicester City’s centre-backs next season, whether they are in the Premier League, or Championship-bound.
