Steve Cooper was quizzed on the possibility of Leicester City signing a striker in his pre-Aston Villa press conference.

Leicester City are back in Premier League action this weekend when they take on Aston Villa at the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes have had a mixed start to the 2024/25 season so far and face another tough test this weekend.

Leicester drew 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur on the opening weekend of the campaign before a 2-1 loss to Fulham in their second league fixture.

Steve Cooper saw his side quickly bounce back in midweek, however, with a 4-0 hammering of Tranmere Rovers in the second round of the League Cup.

Jordan Ayew scored his first Leicester goal against Tranmere and was praised heavily by his new manager post-match.

Ayew will once again need to be in top form this weekend when taking on Unai Emery’s Villa.

With deadline day taking place on Friday, the majority of clubs held their press conference on August 29th and Cooper was no exception.

Steve Cooper on Leicester City signing a striker

The manager’s presser, of course, garnered a lot more attention than usual given it was the final time fans would hear him speak ahead of Deadline Day on Friday.

And while the Aston Villa tie was mentioned, the major taking point on Thursday was, of course, transfers.

Despite Ayew signing, Leicester still appear to be in the market for a new striker, with Cooper quizzed on that topic this afternoon, as per Leicestershire Live.

When asked if Leicester want to sign a new striker this week, Cooper said: “Every manager will always want to strengthen any position.

“We’re no different. We’re not going to sign players who we don’t think are going to have the contribution we want.

“The players we’ve brought in we feel can make the team and the squad better. We’re still in the process, albeit we’re close to the end now.”

What strikers have Leicester City been linked with

With Jamie Vardy getting on in years, Patson Daka injured and Ayew not the most prolific goalscorer, the Foxes could really do with another number nine to help bolster their survival chances,

Leicester have asked about Santiago Gimenez of Feyenoord but a deal for the forward does not appear to be close.

The Mexican recently rejected a proposal from Nottingham Forest and his stance on a move to the King Power is unknown.

Outside of Gimenez, however, there have been very few other names linked to Leicester, suggesting a deal may prove difficult to complete on such short notice.
