The Leicester City striker has edged towards a loan exit on Deadline Day.

Leicester City’s Deadline Day actions have been surrounded around sorting out the striker situation ahead of the transfer window slamming shut.

With a long-term injury sustained by Foxes striker Patson Daka earlier on in pre-season before the 2024/25 Premier League season started, Jamie Vardy and Tom Cannon were left as the only options for Leicester City up top.

Cannon now looks set to move on from Leicestershire after it was made clear that he would no longer be part of Steve Cooper’s plans this season, with the attacker now set to have a medical at a Championship side ahead of a loan switch.

Leicester City striker Tom Cannon set for medical at Championship side Stoke City

As Leicester City look to bolster their attacking options with the potential signings of Armando Broja and Mostafa Mohamed, Cannon is on his way out of the King Power Stadium as it was revealed that he was set to undergo a medical ahead of a move to Stoke City, per John Percy on X.

The Foxes striker was initially allowed to leave the club on a permanent basis, however with no Championship side being willing to meet the optimistic £7million evaluation, they had to opt for a temporary exit for the former Preston North End and Everton striker as the next best alternative.

The Foxes could live to regret Tom Cannon sale

If the Foxes were able to bring in £8million worth of funds in a sale that saw Cannon leave the club permanently, it would have been a deal that would have benefited all parties.

However, a loan move leaves the Foxes in a no-better situation financially, and they have seen off what would be a sufficient striker option this summer, especially with the current injury sustained by Daka.

Whilst he may have not been starting ahead of Vardy, Cannon certainly will have been a suitable option off the bench for Cooper’s side, and it seems as though the club have made a fairly unpopular decision in this instance.
