Leicester City set to make ‘very concrete’ offer for striker averaging a goal contribution every 110 minutes

There’s not long left of the transfer window remaining and Leicester City will have to act fast to get their business done.

Ruud van Nistelrooy wants to improve four key positions this month: a full-back, a left-sided centre-back, a winger and a forward.

So far, Woyo Coulibaly is the only addition this month and other signs of movement have been few and far between.

Strahinja Pavlovic is one centre-back option that has been linked whilst Danish-Palestinian winger Adam Daghim is another name mentioned alongside former Champions League winner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Foxes have lacked firepower this season and are among the lowest scorers in the division having drawn blanks in five of Van Nistelrooy’s games in charge.

But, that could all change according to reports in the Netherlands.

Chuba Akpom linked with Leicester City

A forward is one of the positions Van Nistelrooy wants to strengthen in and it’s understandable to see why.

Santiago Gimenez was a target in the summer but it appears that the free-scoring Mexican is more likely to sign for AC Milan than leave Feyenoord for a relegation battle.

Leicester’s search in the Netherlands hasn’t stopped though and according to De Telegraaf, the Foxes have been keeping tabs on forward Chuba Akpom.

Formerly of Middlesbrough and Arsenal, Akpom has been in and out of the side this season and has scored eight in 31 games. That would technically make him the top scorer at Leicester this campaign.

Overall, Akpom does have quite an impressive record from his time in Amsterdam and has averaged a goal contribution every 110 minutes with 23 goals and four assists in 67 games.

Other clubs are interested, however, including the likes of Marseille and Sunderland, but the Foxes are said to be interested in making a “very concrete” offer.

Leicester City need a striker to support Jamie Vardy

At 38, it’s quite remarkable to see Jamie Vardy still playing to the peak of his powers.

Vardy was singled out by Van Nistelrooy for his excellent display in the Foxes’ 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday but aside from him, there aren’t many other great forward options.

Patson Daka works his socks off but only has one goal and doesn’t look like scoring and Leicester want to cancel Odsonne Edouard’s failed loan deal.

Tom Cannon’s departure to Sheffield United caused plenty of anger too as fans cited his 11 goals in all competitions during his loan spell at Stoke City.

Akpom is by no means a world beater but his previous knowledge of Premier League football and a potential desire to return to England could be what the Foxes need.
