The January transfer window is entering its latter stages and Leicester City really need to get a move on having signed just Woyo Coulibaly.

The Foxes, who are languishing in 19th, are in urgent need of reinforcements, particularly at the back and out wide.

Leicester have the third-worst defensive record in the league, so clearly Ruud van Nistelrooy needs a new centre-back this month. A winger should also be on the shortlist after Abdul Fatawu’s season-ending injury.

But, there’s been some really concerning transfer news out of the King Power Stadium which Leicester fans have been reacting to.

Leicester fans react to news that the club can only sign loan players

According to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, Leicester can only sign players on loan and a winger is thought to be the most likely target.

Leicester fans have been reacting to that news on X (formerly known as Twitter) and they’re now even more worried about the prospect of relegation.

@jjrunner83 posted: “This is ridiculous. We need reinforcements at the back. It’s scandalous how the same back line from two years ago will relegate us again. And why are we selling Tom Cannon when we’ll need him in the Championship next season?!”

“Just don’t bother at this point and prepare for the Championship,” @BarneyGDavis added.

@jamesmi29503135 commented: “Not like striker and centre back are more needed or anything.”

@JamesWillett3 said: “Behind the scenes must be crazy. How could they lie to Ruud like this after lying to Enzo too. What is going on?”

“Worst defence in the league and we’re going for a winger,” @ARRESTWARD posted.

“If we don’t sign a CB or striker we are FINISHED Selling Cannon for nothing and what’s the point in getting a loan out,” @lcfcjoss said.

Tom Cannon sale should boost transfer kitty

Leicester have agreed to sell Tom Cannon to Sheffield United and it’s thought they’re set to receive around £10m.

That money will surely be reinvested into the squad, giving van Nistelrooy more flexibility to add more than just a winger.

A centre-back and perhaps even a striker to replace Cannon should be top priority, otherwise, the writing is on the wall this season.

A telling 12 days lie ahead.
