Ruud Van Nistelrooy is going to have to deal with a number of major problems as Leicester City manager.

After a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea last Saturday, the Foxes sacked Steve Cooper on Sunday evening.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is close to becoming the new Leicester manager and an announcement is expected shortly.

Ahead of the Dutchman taking full control, it is clear he already has a number of problems he must address.

Chris Sutton has sent a Leicester warning to Van Nistelrooy over their players, whom the BBC pundit thinks are ‘entitled’.

On the field, meanwhile, Leicester have picked up just two league wins this term and are only one point above the relegation zone.

Ahead of their latest fixture, meanwhile, Paul Merson gave his score prediction for Brentford vs Leicester and it’s not great for the Midlands outfit.

Ruud van Nistelrooy sent Leicetser City warning by ex-Premier League CEO

Off the field, meanwhile, Van Nistelrooy has now been sent a warning by a former Premier League chief.

Leicester currently have BC.Game as their front-of-shirt sponsor for the 2024/25 season.

However, the club were forced to release a statement after their sponsor ran into legal trouble, saying: “We have been and continue to be in regular discussions with BC.Game with regard to an active legal case in Curacao.

“BC.Game have provided the Club with the strongest assurances that they are actively appealing this case, and that the process which has been initiated in Curacao is administrative in nature and has not arisen due to any concerns with their financial standing.”

Now, speaking on The Inside Track podcast, former Aston Villa and Everton CEO Keith Wyness has warned that Leicester may now need to find a new sponsor for a ‘fire-sale’ price.

He said: “They’ve reassured Leicester and everybody that the sponsorship will be fine. The system in Curacao is not something I’m an expert on but it’s a home for gaming, I’ve been there myself when I lived in the US.

“It’s a difficult situation, but the company have been very vocal in saying they will appeal the decision which would have made them bankrupt.

“Let’s wait and see. It’s a big number, and it would be a big blow if Leicester lost out. They could try and pick up a new sponsor if it goes wrong. There will always be interest because of the eyeballs the Premier League has.

“But it would be at a fire sale price. That isn’t going to help with the PSR situation. They’ll be hoping the sponsors can continue to pay the bills.”

Will Leicester City have to sell players to meet PSR rules

As Wyness mentioned, Leicester currently have some PSR concerns to worry about.

The Foxes won their appeal against the Premier League earlier this season, avoiding a points deduction for the time being.

However, there is still a chance Leicester could face a points deduction in the near future if they don’t comply with PSR.

The potential loss of their current sponsor will certainly not help the situation and there is a chance they may be forced to make more sales in the coming windows as a result.

We spoke to finance expert Adam Williams previously who told us that Leicester had to generate ‘huge profit from player sales to meet the EFL’s PSR threshold, which is lower than the Premier League’s.’
