A successful January transfer window can be the catalyst for Leicester City’s Premier League survival.

Ruud van Nistelrooy will have funds to spend on new players this month, and Leicester are already eyeing several defenders after conceding a league-high 42 goals.

The Dutchman is also looking to address other areas of the pitch, with Leicester showing an interest in midfielder Shea Charles while rivalling Nottingham Forest for striker Petar Musa.

Van Nistelrooy is bracing himself for a busy month of business both in and out of the King Power Stadium and it has now emerged the Leicester manager could target a shock position.

Leicester City could target a number two goalkeeper in January

While the Foxes are one of several clubs threatened by PSR concerns, it is clear they’re prioritising many positions this month.

A centre-back and striker being on the agenda is understandable given their troubles in both positions however, it is now emerged that van Nistelrooy could sign a goalkeeper.

According to The Telegraph’s John Percy, per the Fosse Hub on X, a new number two is being eyed to challenge Mads Hermansen for the number one spot.

This update has left many supporters feeling bemused as Leicester already have four shot-stoppers on the books, with Jakub Stolarczyk, Daniel Iversen and Danny Ward behind Hermansen in the pecking order.

Most supporters feel Stolarczyk is a worthy deputy to the Danish international and signing a new goalkeeper would be a waste of money when practically every other position takes more priority.

Ruud van Nistelrooy issues Mads Hermansen injury update

Hermansen has arguably been Leicester’s most important player this term, rivalling Jamie Vardy for the accolade, but the 24-year-old has missed the last three defeats to Wolves, Liverpool and Manchester City.

Hermansen is sidelined with a groin injury however, ahead of their clash against Aston Villa on Saturday, the Foxes manager supplied an update on his goalkeeper.

Van Nistelrooy expects Hermansen to be out for a couple more weeks, as the Dutchman explained in his press conference on Thursday: “Mads won’t be available.

“He’s been assessed over the last week. He’s in his rehab programme. We want him to be well, 100 per cent fit, before he comes back on the pitch. There’s not a clear picture yet of how long it will be, but he’ll be out for a couple of weeks at least.”

It’s been a big blow to the Dutchman losing such an integral player over the Christmas period but once he returns to action, Leicester won’t need to think about signing a goalkeeper.
