Leicester City are on the lookout for a new manager after making the decision to sack Steve Cooper.

Cooper was sacked by Leicester on Sunday just over 24 hours after the Foxes were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea.

The Welshman won four of his 15 games in charge and leaves Leicester 16th in the Premier League, one point clear of the relegation zone.

His brief time at the King Power Stadium wasn’t without controversy as reports emerged that Cooper had banished one Leicester star from training while a number of the Foxes squad were spotted partying with a ‘Enzo I miss u’ sign in Copenhagen at the weekend.

News of the 44-year-old’s sacking sent shockwaves across the world of football and has divided opinion amongst many.

Alan Shearer provides honest verdict on ‘harsh’ Steve Cooper sacking

For many affiliated to Leicester it feels as if Cooper’s dismissal was a matter of when, not if, but for outsiders there is a sense of confusion.

Given that the goal for the Foxes was to avoid relegation back to the Championship, the Welshman was on course to do that but questionable tactics and a failure to get the fans on his side meant the writing was always on the wall.

However, Alan Shearer admitted he’s been left baffled by the decision. Speaking on The Rest is Football Podcast, he said: “A tad harsh? It’s very harsh.

“They’re two places above the relegation zone, they’re a bang average team, they’ve got a lot of work to do.

“If that was there position come the end of the season, you [Gary Lineker], and all of the other Leicester fans would be delighted.”

Micah Richards ‘shocked’ by Steve Cooper dismissal

It wasn’t just Shearer who was perplexed by the huge Leicester call as Micah Richards also chimed in and echoed his fellow pundit’s sentiments.

“Yeah, I was shocked,” added the former Manchester City star.

“I’m also disappointed as well because I echo what Alan said. I think it’s harsh.

“I don’t know what direction they want to go in. Every time I’ve watched Leicester they seem to be in games, try to play well and get some good results. I couldn’t believe it.”

Attention now turns to who will replace Cooper at the King Power Stadium, with a number of names linked to the Leicester job.

Graham Potter, David Moyes, and Ruud van Nistelrooy are the current frontrunners for the job.
