Newcastle United icon Alan Shearer has selected one Leicester City player in his Team of the Week after impressing in the win over Tottenham.
Leicester secured a surprise 2-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday, coming from behind to wrap up a priceless three points in the battle for survival.
A victory for the Foxes moved them out of the relegation zone as second-half goals from Jamie Vardy and Bilal El Khannouss stole the headlines.
Ruud van Nistelrooy praised Vardy’s leadership after the game, underlining his all-round importance, but he wasn’t the only player who impressed in the match.
Goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk made some outstanding saves to preserve their three points, and Alan Shearer has now paid him the ultimate compliment.

Alan Shearer names Jakub Stolarczyk in his Team of the Week
The foundation of any victory against a big side is being strong at the back and clinical in attack, with Leicester showing both attributes at the weekend.
Stolarczyk, in particular, was a man-mountain between the sticks, showcasing his qualities as a brilliant shot-stopper.
Jakub Stolarczyk stats vs Tottenham
5 saves
3 punches
54 touches
6 clearances
13 accurate long balls
0.77 goals prevented
The above statistics highlight how influential the Pole was in the win, reinforcing why Shearer named the 24-year-old in his Premier League Team of the Week alongside the likes of Josko Gvardiol and Alexander Isak.
“The Pole made some big saves to help Leicester to a huge win at Tottenham Hotspur that moved them out of the bottom three,” Shearer wrote.
Praise from a Premier League icon suggests Stolarczyk is improving with each passing week, superbly deputizing in the absence of Mads Hermansen.
Stolarczyk is a ready-made replacement for Mads Hermansen
Leicester fans feared the worst when Hermansen suffered an injury in the loss at Newcastle, perhaps feeling that Danny Ward and Stolarczyk weren’t good enough to fill his boots.
The towering Danish international has been influential this term, emerging as one of the most promising goalkeepers in the top flight.
As a result, Hermansen has been linked with Man United and is likely to command further interest in the summer.
To combat PSR Leicester could sell Hermansen, especially if they are relegated to the Championship and that could see someone else brought in.
However, during the 24-year-old’s spell on the sidelines, the ‘excellent’ Stolarczyk has arguably proven that he’s good enough to be a ready-made replacement and he could save the Foxes millions in the transfer window.
