Man City facing huge injury crisis ahead of Leicester City visit

Leicester City will look to halt their alarming downturn in form when they face an out of sorts Manchester City.

Ruud van Nistelrooy could match a 21-year record if the Foxes lose for a fourth consecutive game but are probably facing Man City at the best time given that they have won one of their last 13 games.

A win could see Leicester climb out of the bottom three after they swapped places with Wolves following the Foxes’ defeat at Liverpool.

The Blues have injury problems themselves, with as many as seven players potentially out for Leicester today.

But, it’s no easier for the reigning Premier League champions, who are facing an injury crisis of their own.

Man City injury news: As many as nine players could be out for Leicester game

Pep Guardiola is used to having his own way and winning at Man City, but, this season has had quite a different story.

Trailing Liverpool and outside of the top four, City are in a real slump but are missing a whole host of players.

Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan missed the draw against Everton due to a virus but have both trained since and could be set to return.

Nathan Ake meanwhile was substituted on Boxing Day and the extent of the problem is unknown.

Ederson has missed the last two games whilst John Stones was withdrawn in the defeat against Aston Villa after 45 minutes and hasn’t returned since.

Mattheus Nunes, Kyle Walker and Jack Grealish are all doubts but Rodri, Oscar Bobb and Ruben Dias will definitely be out.

What has Ruud van Nistelrooy said about Man City ahead of next Leicester test

Since winning his first game in charge as Leicester manager, Van Nistelrooy has had a difficult time of late.

A 2-2 draw against Brighton was followed by three consecutive defeats, however, with Man City struggling, this could be the perfect time to get back on track.

Despite their opponents’ recent woes, Van Nistelrooy knows that only the very best performance will be enough to secure three points.

“Everybody knows, when you look at the team and how they played (against Everton), I know the quality of that squad and manager so I am focusing on that and the quality we will face,” he said.

“We have to prepare for a great performance in our side. Being where we are we need to be spot on in all parts of football to get a result.

“For us all the games we are playing are massive. We know a certain amount of points are necessary and every second of every game is important.

“It is something which needs constant improvement and pressure to perform and get results. It is from game to game, we evaluate the game and make a gameplan to get a result against City.”
