PGMOL say one Leicester City player actually should have been sent off for ‘horror’ tackle

Leicester City have turned over a new leaf since Ruud van Nistelrooy arrived at the club.

From the uninspiring football of Steve Cooper to the feeling of viewing an attacking philosophy, Leicester fans are now excited about watching their side.

Last time out epitomised the fight and desire the Dutchman has instilled into the squad as Leicester came from 2-0 down to draw with Brighton.

Jamie Vardy’s equaliser propelled them to five points clear of the bottom three, and although Opta tips Leicester to still get relegated, it’s impossible to ignore the recent improvements.

This weekend, the Foxes travel to a Newcastle side who are six points above in 12th, with Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men looking to continue their recent resurgence.

The officials have now been named for Leicester’s trip to Newcastle, including who’s on VAR.

Leicester have had mixed fortunes with the video assistant referee, as seen last month when one player was lucky not to receive a red card for his challenge.

Wilfred Ndidi should have been sent off for ‘horror’ tackle on Cole Palmer

In Cooper’s final game in charge, Leicester suffered a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea but it wasn’t the loss that raised the most eyebrows after the game.

Wilfred Ndidi’s ‘horror’ tackle on Cole Palmer went unpunished by VAR despite his studs connecting with the back of the attacker’s leg.

The Nigerian was only shown a yellow card for his challenge on the Englishman, with Alan Shearer feeling Ndidi should have been sent off.

Joe Cole also agreed that Ndidi should have been shown a red for his reckless tackle, and that was a verdict shared by the PGMOL’s Howard Webb.

“We’ve looked at this collectively, among the officials, talked about this, and we would prefer this to be dealt with a red card. We have to protect player safety,” Webb said as per journalist Kieran Gill.

Ndidi injury update ahead of Newcastle

While Ndidi wasn’t sent off and hit with a suspension in the defeat to Chelsea, the Nigerian could miss the trip to Newcastle this weekend.

The 27-year-old was forced off with a problem in the draw at Brighton, and on Sunday, van Nistelrooy confirmed Ndidi suffered a hamstring injury.

“Wilf, when he comes off you know there’s a problem,” the Leicester boss admitted.

“I hope it’s minor. He felt a slight strain in the hamstring. Hopefully it’s not too much. We’ll see how quick we can get him back.”

Leicester will now face a nervous wait to find out the extent of his injury with van Nistelrooy set to address the media on Thursday afternoon.
