Leicester City boss Steve Cooper has revealed extra details behind Harry Winks’ injury.

Steve Cooper’s side were undone at the King Power Stadium as they lost 2-1 to Chelsea, a scoreline that reflects very favourable on the performance which Leicester certainly showed to be second-best.

The Foxes struggled in every aspect on the pitch, especially defensively, with Wout Faes putting in a somewhat calamity-driven performance, whilst Caleb Okoli certainly didn’t show any signs of solidarity at the back either.

The midfield was also very passive throughout the 90 minutes, and a lot of that goes down to the early forced substitution of Harry Winks, who went off with an injury. Leicester City boss Cooper will be feeling the effects of losing one of his top midfielders, and he has now highlighted the extent of his injury.

Leicester City boss Steve Cooper reveals extent of Harry Winks injury after Chelsea loss

Leicester midfielder Winks was substituted in just the 11th minute, where he was replaced by fellow former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp.

Foxes boss Cooper has now spoken about the injury picked up by the midfielder, where he said, per Leicestershire Live: “It’s his groin.

“Fingers crossed. Sometimes these things can be a week, sometimes they can be… we saw what happened with Ricardo.

“When I said about needing to do better with the ball, Winksy will start that more than anybody else for us. That’s his super-strength, his control of games and his ability to start attacks and keep momentum in the game.

“It was a blow, him coming off, and maybe that did have an interference with why we didn’t have enough good moments on the ball in the first half.

“It’s added to a phase we’re going through with injuries. It hasn’t been a clean week. There were lots of lads who a couple of days ago I didn’t think were going to be fit to play, but they’ve managed to get themselves ready.”

Winks has played a crucial role up until this point in the season, notching 11 appearances in the Premier League, whilst notching two assists.

Harry Winks injury will be a call for one Leicester City man to stand up

There will be a noticeable gap in-the centre-of-the-park for the Foxes as a result of the costly injury sustained by Winks, and that means that Leicester City man Skipp must surely fill the boots of the 28-year-old.

Leicester City midfielder Skipp hasn’t quite hit the ground running during his time at the club, and there is a common view that more was expected from him after his start to the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.

Per SofaScore, after seven games, Skipp is still yet to manage a single goal contribution, whilst also managing an average of just 23.7 accurate passes per game. Defensively, he hasn’t been the most solid either after being less than 50% successful in ground duels, whilst also notching just 0.6 interceptions and 0.7 tackles per game.

After what was seen during his time at Spurs, there certainly will have been much more to expect from the midfielder, and the time to improve on that has to be now.
