Leicester City liability put his side ‘in trouble’ during Chelsea defeat – it wasn’t just Wout Faes

One Leicester City man played a particularly damning part in the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea.

The Foxes’ Premier League woes continued in the clash against Chelsea as they recorded a fifth successive game without victory in the Premier League.

The 2-1 home defeat against Chelsea marks four defeats in Steve Cooper’s previous five, leaving them in a somewhat vulnerable 16th position, two points off the bottom three.

Whilst they eventually lost by a tight scoreline, the game was far from 50-50, and there will be very few positives for the Leicester boss to take from the game.

Wout Faes was one big disappointment, and it is clear that he has continued his poor form on from the shaky international break for the Belgian, however he wasn’t exactly overshadowed by his fellow centre-back Caleb Okoli, whose poor showing certainly went under the radar.

Caleb Okoli showed clear signs of struggle for Leicester City vs Chelsea

At the back, Leicester City looked far from secure, and that was certainly embodied in the opening goal, which saw Faes unable to clear the ball in bizarre fashion, however the performance from Okoli was not massively better than his counterpart.

Okoli certainly put his side ‘in trouble’, per Leicestershire Live, on many occasions, including the second Chelsea goal which saw him look lost in attempting to prevent Nicolas Jackson’s header, which eventually set-up Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez to double their lead.

The Foxes defender’s stats also don’t reflect positively on his showing as, per SofaScore, he lost possession a total of 16 times, whilst misplacing 15 passes throughout the game. He was also dribbled past in the game once.

Defensive mistakes could cause jeopardy for Steve Cooper’s job security

There is no doubt that Leicester City’s recent form has been more than questionable, and it has arisen at a time where Cooper’s role at the club is somewhat insecure, especially with many fans making it clear that they would like the board to seek a change in management.

It is clear that Cooper must proactively seek to resolve these costly mistakes at the back as they could easily cost him his job, and this must see him either switch around his centre-back options, or take action in attempting to turn around the fortunes of his defensive pair.

Cooper, whilst his football hasn’t been the most glorious, still has his side outside of the relegation spots, and his short spell at the club so far certainly wouldn’t have been reflected on so badly if the defence had the confidence to not make a catalogue of errors.
