Jeremy Monga is a rare beam of light for Leicester City in a dark season, but supporters are worried that light will be stolen from them.

It’s been an impressive campaign for Monga so far, with the teenager shining at club level and on the international stage for England.

Monga has trained with the Leicester first team on multiple occasions, and he’s flourished in the under-21s alongside the likes of Jake Evans and Henry Cartwright.

Still only 15, Monga has also caught the eye for England’s under-16s, scoring in fixtures against France, Colombia and Denmark as captain.

As a result of his talent, Leicester City News exclusively revealed on Thursday that Monga has agreed a transfer with Manchester City.

However, when asked about the teenage wonderkid, Ruud van Nistelrooy issued a somewhat promising update.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is ‘doing everything’ to keep Jeremy Monga

Everyone at Leicester knows how talented the exciting youngster is, and they anticipate him reaching the pinnacle of European football.

But just like Trey Nyoni, who joined Liverpool in 2023 as a 16-year-old, Monga could also leave the King Power Stadium before turning 17 and signing his professional contract.

According to Van Nistelrooy, though, Leicester are ‘doing everything’ in their power to keep the 2009-born whiz by presenting him with a plan and having conversations with his family.

Based on previous evidence, it’s going to be difficult to prevent Monga from joining up with Pep Guardiola at Man City, and the manager’s work behind the scenes could be in vain.

That being said, the Leicester wonderkid only needs to look at the past to see that moving to a big club at such a young age doesn’t always work out.

Monga’s best option is staying at Leicester

Monga has already been compared to Vinicius Jr, the Real Madrid superstar currently doing everything possible to win the Ballon d’Or.

But while Monga perhaps dreams of following in his footsteps in the future, remaining humble and staying at Leicester is arguably the best option.

Indeed, staying at the King Power will see a clear path to first-team football open up, even more so if the Foxes suffer relegation to the Championship.

Instead of playing against people close to his age in Man City’s under 18s or 21s, Monga could be making a name for himself in the senior side at Leicester.
