Leicester City are looking to use their position of power at the top of the Championship to pull off some ambitious moves in this window.
Enzo Maresca currently has seven players out either through injury or on international duty, hence why he’s looking to invest in his playing squad.
With midfielder Wilfried Ndidi facing a long spell on the sidelines, signing a midfielder could be a position of priority.
Leicester have already been linked with Serie A title-winning midfielder Stefano Sensi, who could be available for £2.5 million.
Another position that the Italian is looking to bolster is out wide as he attempts to provide competition for Stephy Mavididi.
That has seen the Foxes ‘strongly consider’ a move for Vitesse Arnhem winger Million Manhoef and Manchester United starlet Amad Diallo.
Meanwhile, Leicester have shown how ambitious they are by showing their interest in Sunderland dynamo Jack Clarke.
Leicester are interested in Jack Clarke
Championship powerhouses Leicester and Southampton have joined six Premier League sides in the race for Clarke.
That is according to the Northern Echo, who claim that it isn’t clear at this stage whether any of the interested clubs will firm up intent with a bid for the 23-year-old.
While those clubs are said to value the Englishman up to £15m, former Black Cats manager Tony Mowbray – who hailed him as a ‘super talent’ – previously said they wouldn’t even consider offers below £20m.
Given Sunderland are fighting for the play-offs, it would take an almighty offer to prise Clarke away from the Stadium of Light this month.
As far as Leicester are concerned, acquiring a left-winger, especially one of Clarke’s ilk, isn’t a priority in this window.
Why Leicester don’t need Jack Clarke
Leicester’s ambition to target Clarke must be admired, but at this moment in time, there are other mini fires to burn out.
Maresca isn’t particularly light on options in any area once his players return from international duty, though he does want to sign a midfielder to replace the injured Ndidi.
As mentioned previously, getting a deal for Sensi over the line is far more than important than capturing a winger.
On both flanks, Leicester have two of the most in-form wingers in the division with Mavididi and Abdul Fatawu tearing the Championship apart.
Mavididi has only produced one less goal contribution than Clarke’s total of 14 having plundered nine goals and supplied four assists.
The Frenchman has been incredible since arriving in the summer and Gary Lineker has already tipped him to thrive in the Premier League.
It can therefore be questioned whether Sunderland’s star would even be an upgrade on Mavididi, who has been just as impressive this season.
